Union Square, NYC
A tough way to make a buck. The quintessential Pitchman...English accent, dapper dress, broad smile...a classic in every sense of the word.

The peeler peddler from another planet.

Hope this does well even if it's not a straight portrait but leans slightly towards the candid side.

A lot of slight selective saturation play (greens, reds and oranges)and about 5 sharpening passes. Sepia filter. Contrast, curves...again, many minor adjustments on top of adjustments to bring the guy forward. Lightroom and PS2.

Wow! What a story to go with your wonderful photo! I really like the Daily News version that Pineapple linked.

Good stuff. Thanks.

My wife saw Joe's daughter in Brooklyn Borough Hall green market last week selling peelers. She has taken his place... I missed her but will drop by to say a few words... Joe being British and having that Australian connection too (same as me) we clicked..

RIP Joseph Ades. He was a special man and I am so sorry to see him go. The Telegraph UK. The New York Times. Daily News has the best obituary.

Don't I know this guy!!! He is all over. Not too long ago he was peeling downtown for few days.

Good shot and congrats on D300.

That linked article. Was that written by the least investigative journalist ever ?

Top 10 for you! I gave this a 7. I love the subject's "confrontation" with the viewer. It's smarmy, yet poignant somehow.

You are on a roll man!!! Congrats on a great finish.

Oh good, I'm glad this was yours. This was one of the ones that really hit home on the theme. Another one of your great character captures. I love the look on the lady pushing the stroller. Congrats on the top 10!

yes, I actually see this guy at least twice a month, so i was really happy to see this on the top 10 this week. Great capture. If i had any nit to pick its that i'd agree with Eyesup that a tiny bit shallower DoF would put more focus on him but great shot nonetheless.

love the capture and the expression. would have liked a bit shallower Dof to make those people behind him less distracting.

He has a very compelling and friendly face - very much in his element. Nicely done.

The man looks odd in a suit sitting on a street corner with buckets, a vanity fair and a carrot

One of the best shot for this challenge. I hope you get a ribbon. The main character is so candid, and so in the street, as well as the lady in the background. Well done.

great candid! I love his expression and the expression of the woman behind him! they are so opposing. I feel like this would be so perfect if that other guy wasn't in it or perhaps was on the other side. (but obviously I know you had no control over that!)

Terrific. You can feel his charm!

I like this one a lot. The only thing I would change, if possible, would be to wait till those other people were out of the frame, as they are rather distracting from the person we are supposed to be looking at.

Great candid shot. Too bad about the distracting background, shallower DOF would have helped, as would conversion to B&W.

perfect for the challenge, so full of life, nice details all around. Had preferred less DOF though. Might be Pawdrix work.

oh, I like this one. Background is a tad to busy, IMO. Like the colors and the sharpness. His expression is so lovely! Nice shot!

Maybe cropping would have helped. The other two people in the phot detracted from it.

some great elements. Life as it happens, tells me quite a bit about him, though maybe a higher angle or different lens might have shown me more about what he's doing - what is that orange pile infront of him ? Fewer or more connected people in the background might have made more sense in the frame.

ETA: one of two memorable shots in the challenge after a day, so bumping up (10)

The expression on the guy is great, definitely a good capture. What takes away from this picture, and it's not your fault, is the two people in the background, especially the girl with what looks like a lifeless baby and a confused/angry face...5

Your subject is very welcoming. What's he doing? Shredding carrots? Is he selling something? This image really piques my interest. It's framed very nicely, telling something about the woman in the background too. You hit the challenge right on!

I know that man. An Englishman in NYC and rather famous too. Those Swiss made peelers really work well. I have two ;-) You made a fine portrait there. Really captured his essence.

This guys is always around my school outside the Borough Hall stop in Brooklyn! Great action shot on this animated character. Was he really in that vanity fair like he says? Hah, gonna give you a 10 here (i don't normally give 10s..), both for execution, as well as my personal desire to see this shot do well. Gl
