without the title in this picture, i would have no clue where the guy was. Maybe helping show the garbage in the back could help
03/22/2008 07:13:53 PM
You made the garbage look so beautiful! this photo reminds me of the Mona Lisa.

Very nice and unusual study, possibly could have done with either a slightly shallower dof or the contrast tweaking in pp to make it stand out more but nevertheless a good photo as is. The eyes of your subject are particularly impressive and tell a tale of years past

Nice job

Great photo!

very nice shot, and a good subject well captured. the difference between this and my favorites in the challenge is that here I get no strong sense of how this fellow interacts with this particular environment.
03/20/2008 03:46:21 PM
I really like the detail and lighting on the subject but I think this would have been a better shot for the challenge if you had a higher depth of field. I do like the grain in the background but if it weren't for the title I may not worked out where he was.
03/20/2008 01:16:03 PM
The facial expression is stunning. There is something just short of dispair communicating from those eyes. Well done.
03/20/2008 12:20:07 PM
excellent portrait but garbage in the background is not obvious at all. i really like the portrait but as i am not sure whether i should vote high based on that only (considering this is an "environmental" portrait challenge)...so i will skip voting for this image.

looks very authentic, seems right at home. 7

To be honest if you hadn't made it clear in the title, it wouldn't have been obvious what his environment was or who he was.
03/19/2008 03:46:48 PM
This would be my pick for a blue, definitely should ribbon. The composition is perfect with the worker to the right of the frame, revealing the garbage behind him. The lighting on the face is extremely well done. The grainy gray sky adds a more to the feel of pollution, which works very well... based on lighting, composition, subject, processing, and originality, you get probably my only 10
03/19/2008 12:49:28 PM
This is a good portrait, although the shallow DOF doesn't allow the environment to enhance or complement the image.
03/19/2008 11:57:08 AM
I think being in colour would have given the garbage a better chance of speaking for itself. without the title I would not have known what it was.
03/19/2008 11:20:45 AM
Great face expression! well done!

man without the title my first impression was 'arctic explorer'. terrific shot/expression/processing 8
