Challenge: Leading Lines IV (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Location: Boston Museum of Fine Arts
Date: Feb 17, 2008
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/500
Date Uploaded: Feb 18, 2008

I shot this wide open to create a somewhat shallow depth of field that adds to the illusion that the figure was actually falling vertically down the photo, when in fact the gridwork is really the roof of the atrium and I'm directly below the figure. Hopefully the sharp linearity adds to the illusion of the fall as well.

Top ten on your first challenge - awesome! You should stop now for an average of 6.7 - ha.

This is an amazing photo - you got a 10 from me.

Well done. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thank you! Though it was a bit disheartening/nerve-racking to see my score free fall over the last day or so. I look forward to getting a detailed critique from the DPC critic gurus.

So is that a statue up there?

Sort of. It is some installation art hanging off the glass ceiling at the Museum of Fine Arts. Great museum, BTW. Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in Boston.

Would love to know how this was done. Very visually interesting. The guy seems a little out of focus

This is what "leading" lines are about. Leading to something. This is good.

the angle or position of the person falling creates the allusion of no left leg

Wow! I'd love to know the story behind this! Lots of lines! Due to perspective they draw me toward the bottom of the image but I still love the shot.
