Sorry for the lack of imagination and I can hear the DNMC police screaming simply bread. So there's a few other things and the bread was expesive. Good stuff though....munch munch munch...want some? Come on over...I'mm PM you the address. BTW.....Your toast Dannels! LOL! I mean to get at least a 5 in the challenge. Beat that, Buddy! (He probably will, you know!)

Lit with the one clamp lamp on the right with a 200w halogen bulb pointing up to a piece of white poster board over the shooting area and a reflector on the left. Pre-set white balance. Camera on tripod, it was a bit dicey cause I do not have a cable remote (arriving tomorrow). Maybe I should have used the D70s and remote. Oh well.

The position of the pieces seem too unnatural. You totally nailed the lighting though. Great stuff.

A nice range of shapes and colours, a pity the wine wasn't a little brighter to act as a balance to the rose.

A nice evenings eating after the shoot though : )

awesome set up with the food. The texture is amazing but the background really dulls the picture. good thought

I really love the mood in this one, just would have felt more like a "still life" for me if everything wasn't so perfectly aligned.

An excellent implementation of a cliched idea. Even though it has been done to death, this looks technically perfect.

I prefer my still lifes a little less formulaic but very well lit and presented. A pity a couple of grapes have been chopped off!

I like the textures and lighting on this. It's well composed, but a little boring.

The way "everyone" is standing up, it looks more like a group portrait than a still life...very curious indeed.

I wonder if it all feels a little bit too straight up and down... nicely captured though

Too much straight up & down on the staging for me, something leaning or angled might draw more interest. Very nicely lit & exposed though.

This pic deserves some special attention, as it is clear that you have given it attention. Let me first congratulate on a great lighting job. The blacks are true black, but the dark parts of the pick still have detail. Also, the sharpness and texture are fine. I do have a problem with the composition though. The composition has the 'required' diagonal in it, but I think it is too formal. Looking at classic (painted) still lifes, they often look as if the stuff was just left there without any purpose. This one is clearly set up to make a picture. I would have liked it better if you cut up at least one of the breads and arranged it seemingly random (while keeping a diagona of course).

The elements in the still life are also a bit awkward to me. I can imagine a wine still life, featuring bread, cheese and grapes. But for that setting, a couple of slices would have been sufficient. Three full breads look like breakfast to me, but that makes the wine obsolete. I see no use for a rose, a pear and an apple in any of these settings, they would be great in a fruit still life or a cornucopia. Do you get where I am going? The elements should belong together and be well balanced.

Just two minor points to finish with: I see a wire (?) running to your right hand cheese and part of the grapes are covered by black cloth.

Good still life - just lacks more natural lighting to really fly.
