I was 2 1/2 when Oma came to live with us. Here is my memory of that morning when I snuck into her room and stared at her in awe. When she awoke, she started talking to me and although I had no understanding of the German language, I knew we were bonding. That was 1962.

Since that morning...as I got older:
we played records and danced together
I learned to speak German
we drew pictures of castles - her's were better than mine :)
I got to sip beer from a juice glass while we read at night
Hearing your Grandma cheer you on in German in a softball game PRICELESS!
Hearing Oma yell at Dad to get off the grass..equally priceless
Hearing your friends call your grandma "Oma" = PRIDE

I miss Oma 1900 - 1972 Anna Helena Sachreuther born Worms, Germany

I love the story behind this!! Every now and then a picture simply is more than meets the eye. It may not make sense to a stranger but that makes it no less a valuable picture to the person who understands its meaning.

Sorry I did not get to commenting sooner. Your #1 fan has been busy with the kids and the neighborhood kids since they too are off school today :(

So you know, I think photos with very personal meanings don't often translate well, because they mean so much more to you than anyone could ever appreciate. I know we talked about what you were going to do and look what happened - you created an image the way you described to it me. Definitely a morning scene, definitely from the perspective of your eyes as a child. Excellent job of taking this from concept to creation.

Deb...I bet you couldn't wait for her to wake up. You were a disciplined child. My children would have been bouncing on her bed to wake her up...;-) Although the photo did not receive the appreciation it deserved...the treasures of your memory are warmhearted and thank you for sharing your Oma with all of us!

Sorry I didn't get the meaning here, Deb. After reading about your Oma, I realize the connection. Your Oma sounds like a very nice lady.

This is the kind of shot I prefer on a challenge like this. One that is meaningful. Good job, to bad few appreciated it.
