i went to pick up my daughter and a couple of her friends from the camden hotel on friday night .. (actually it had become saturday morning) ... i'd messaged her and she took ages to come out ... of course i had my camera with me so i took a couple of shots while i was waiting ..
the building behind the four wheel drive is the camden hotel ..
i was going to delete the original because i thought it was pretty bad, but then i decided to give it a bit'v a process for our 'where you live' side challenge ..
this is the original, with a touch of levels (coz you'd see nothing otherwise) .. it's extremely ordinary ..
ppl say i'm a good photographer .. this is the proof that i'm not ..

this is holly and ali when they finally came to the car .. you can see they'd been having a good time .. !!

sue suemack asked how i processed the pub so i sent her a pm explaining ...
this is wot i said .. minus the greetings and goodbyes etc ..
i processed it thru my raw program and just lightened it using exposure .. no colours or anything else ..
i then did a lucisart exposure .. OF COURSE .!!!
then i did a fairly dramatic sharpen .. i think ..
then i did a perfectum because it was a very grainy image coz it was underexposed ..
i dont like the perfectum if its overused .. it gives too much of a plastic look .. its a redfield plug by the way ..
anyhoooooooooo ..
after the perfectum i skewed very slightly because it was slightly unbalanced .. i then did a noise ninja and another sharpen ..
adjustment layer in colour balance ..
AND THAT'S IT .. !!!

Well a very good job of recovering what might appear to be a throwaway shot. Looks very natural, even though heavily processed.

I love the detail in this. The empty feel is great, too.

Looks like they were closing the place down. You did a nice job "rescuing" the picture :-)

What a pretty street scene, it looks like a quiet town.

Excellent shot on so many levels... first of all, this is not what I expect to see when I think "Australia". I don't know why - probably due to stereotypes in my brain. But this looks so old world and European - very quaint. Love seeing this "ordinary" (and of course, nothing you do is ordinary) street shot - excellent.

And then, the processing... thanks for putting in your steps. After seeing the original, and before reading your steps, I tried to somewhat replicate the look - the difference possibly being (besides my lesser talent) that I was not converting from RAW. I got it ~~ sort of~~ to look like yours, but not NEARLY as clear and popping as yours.

That said - you ARE a a good photographer - an outstanding one, in fact. Silly woman!! You are consistently stunning people with your images and your innovative and bold approaches to photography and processing. Just accept that you are totally brilliant. :o)OX

Roz, I think your processing is so fun... you make that village street look like it comes from a Fairy tale...espec that shingled house!
