This photo made me depressed all day long. The water was very polluted and it stunk pretty bad. The scene might look nice to some, but this is actually a photo of the former NYC dump. Living here in NYC makes it hard to find a stream or small river, and I figured I walk over to the marshes. Although they closed this dump down years ago, it still smelled there, and so I only took a few shots. I should have put some extra gas in the car and drove up to the East river or Hudson. This was taken at 6:15am, the sun was not up yet.

PP: Some curves to compensate for the contrast raise. Highlight adjustments and a little cropping to eliminate the sidewalk.

A nice Kill there.... always wondered what a Kill was when I arrived in NYC. I thought for a while it had something to do with the Mafia of Staten Island - immediately I associated ditches with dead bodies... In fact, so I understand, the word Kill is derived from the Dutch language, early settlers in NYC, and means ditch.

I like the b&w, but the water looks almost too smooth.

nice choice for B/W though I'm not a fan of the gradient shading so evident from top to bottom, I realize this type of PP is done alot here

Stunning - it's the sharp reflections of the grasses in the water that take this from being really nice to great imho. Also one of those shots where a clear sky really works in a very simple but beautiful composition.
