Challenge: Time Lapse (Advanced Editing VI ("Time Lapse")*)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D
Lens: Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4 L USM
Location: England
Date: Jan 6, 2008
Date Uploaded: Jan 6, 2008

This challenge has caused me many problems and so I had almost ran out of time. I woke up Sunday morning and remembered they have a bike club at the weekends and this idea was born..

I think this should do well in what is a very demanding challenge, maybe the MOST demanding I have entered. I love the new rule set so here it is...

est score - 6.6
dream score - 7.3

Well... I can dream can't I?

Keep swapping from my 2 shots, settled on this one after an ear bashing from the wife..

WOW! Thank you all for the MANY comments and this blue ribbon. As I said there was 2 shots I was playing with, this was the other shot, I think I made the right choice in the end. Maybe?

Great shot, unfortunately I think his figure gets a little lost in the trees. Maybe throw the background more out of focus next time (if you have the lens for it... I wish I did!)

This is the image that seems to have all of the fun and beauty that this specific challenge requests.
The colors are great - and the subjects of the image demand equal attention as the trees are just as interesting as the biker-- 9

Good capture. I like the grungier effect on this. I would have found some clothes to make the subject stand out more from all of the brown in the frame.

Love your motion here...I can only imagine what an image would look like if you were to lay on your back in the bottom between the ramps! I like that there is no motion blur. BB

01/10/2008 03:55:24 PM
Brilliant concept! The lighting and trees in the background were somewhat distracting. Maybe if your subject had been dressed in more vivid colors or the lighting were different it would help the main focus of the image stand out even more. Great shot, nonetheless! 8

01/08/2008 02:00:54 PM
perfectly meting chalenge, but overall to dark, there'S not enough contrast betwen the biker and the forest

This is very cool. I like the detail...

01/08/2008 09:00:30 AM
Very difficult lighting and you've done so well to freeze frame each position without any blur. Difficult setup requiring the live active and so overall a very high technical merit. I've been playing around with HDR recently since the rule change and the background looks possibly like you used this technique but obviously this would be impossible for the guy on the bike. So I reckon you may have had 3+ captures for the background plus another 5 for the action so I fully understand the amound of effort thats gone into this. Well done all round

This should be a top 10 for sure. My favorite of the challenge so far. Well captured...my only wish is that the biker were a little more light compared to the background. But this is great!!!

At last one I am actually enjoying viewing! Your have chosen a good subject to showcase this technique, with a good base photograph. The low vantage point adds to the sense of height and clear air.

Amazing shot, not only for the obviously interesting/thrilling action but also for the lighting which for me is the really impressive part. With such deft lighting skills I'd be tempted to shout "Larus" but I'm way too new around here to be starting to guess (and there's no snow!). The lighting on the subjects face in the three frames you can see it is amazing. The exposure for the most part is well handled with so much DoF and crazy shadowing - and I can see why you've underexposed to accentuate the rider. Is there any tone mapping in the foreground? Is that a speedlte behind the mound? Teach me your skills!! Anyhow..congrats on a brilliant photo.

Very nice. As I'm scoring this challenge, I'm asking myself: Would one of these frames be a good photo, or is it an unappealing photo that is time lapsed?

The setup and processing of this photo stands on it's own. Nicely done.
