 Wow !! my 1st ribbon , what a great New Year present. Couldn't have done it without all your votes.

Here's how I did it
1. selectively desaturated original image
2. sharpened / saturated slightly the colored area
3. cloned out the defects
4. Rotated the image
5. Cropped to get final image

Congratulations, and happy new year! I couldn't figure out how it was done either until I saw the original and explanation, and it looks relatively simple. It's a technique done many times but looks very original here. I don't know how you got the background so blurred at f9. The hand and ball must have been very close. Great job!
