cool shot! yeah i would have done the same. about them saying no... thats just a formality... lol yu dont ven need toask, especialy for these shots! (as long as they are in public.)
12/28/2007 10:08:16 PM
This is a very moving image. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!
12/28/2007 09:39:46 PM
I'm sorry to hear about the DQ...it was truely an amazing shot.
12/28/2007 05:31:28 PM
Sorry for the DQ. Regardless of the DQ, and the somewhat bullshit discussion regarding having their permission (I would have done the same thing), this a great photo and the voters think so too. I would be proud if I had taken this.
12/28/2007 02:34:38 PM
Too bad on the DQ, this is a beautiful image.
12/28/2007 02:32:34 PM
Sorry about the DQ. It's a nice shot but I have to agree with eyewave on this. The challenge isn't just what the title says. That's only 50% of it. The title gives you the basic idea and the challenge description gives you the finer details. However, this isn't like it's the first time the description got totally ignored in a challenge so it's probably about time we just nix that part and describe everything in the title only since that's all people read anyway.
12/28/2007 12:55:33 PM
I think this "discussion" of how the picture is captured inappropriately is absolute hogwash. They declined to have their "picture" taken but that's a matter of FACES, don't you know? I can't imagine any valid objection to this back view.

You should not only read the title, but also the description of the challenge. Besides that, I agree with macrothing. The way you shot that image takes away lots of its beauty.

Nevertheless, sorry for your DQ.
12/28/2007 10:34:03 AM
I have to agree with macrothing here. You asked the couple and they said 'no'. So don't shoot. The fact that the lady smiled while saying no, simply implies that she is polite, not that she meant 'yes'. Is it realy so hard to take no for an answer?
12/28/2007 02:07:56 AM
Beautiful shot and glad you were honest about the conversation, you can not tell their idenity and who could resist this moment?
12/27/2007 08:09:12 PM
Thanks everyone once more. PB and its a blue - i'm so happy. I see we got some nice discussion... anyway...
@ macrothing : I ensure U that this couple would be happy to see themselves on 1st place:) the lady smiled very nice and said "no thanks" but this gives only more beauty to this image (in my opinion). Maybe for them there was nothing special to get a picture, but for me as a young man is a special moment to see old couple walking like thry were on wedding :)
@ eyewave: challenge name is "beauty in the everyday" ... in my eyes it does meet challenge in 100%, but thank you also for your vote and comment:)

But i got a problem.. cant submit original picture.. sorry if i'll disappoint anyone.

I guess I must be one of only a few who see something else in this image, after reading your Photographer's Comments: "It was a great pleasure to take a photo of this gorgeous pair :)

I see a couple having their picture taken against their will. I know many will disagree, the 'candid' debate will arise, etc. But in my opinion there is a line on personal 'space', and it gets increasingly crossed in this day and age, if recognized at all. It is not the 50's anymore and photographer's such as Doisneau (whose work this image might be reminiscent of) did/do not 'do' the same things with their images. In so many ways it is not the same world anymore. Consider this: what would this couple think knowing a: this image was taken even when they politely declined and, b: this image being 'placed' on the internet. Consideration and respect seems to be missing nowadays.

The image itself is quite nice, nice scene, nice composition, tones work well. I didn't vote on this image in this Challenge. As far as meeting the challenge of 'Beauty in the Everyday', I understand the concept, but, especially after reading 'the story', it is missing the 'peace'. Of course the voters didn't know that and 'reality' rarely 'accompanies' an image anyway, but even with it, most seem content to 'ignore' the facts. As for wabi sabi, a different concept that was lost on many in this Challenge.

Awesome shot!! Congratulations on your first ribbon and personal record!!
12/27/2007 01:46:41 PM
I love knowing the conversation right before this shot! You can just imagine the temperature in the air, the time of day and that they graciously turned down your request...and didn't yell at you or anything.
Thanks so much for turning around and looking back...
Congratulations!

I liked this image when I voted on it (see previous comment) and I like seeing it on the front page. Nicely done and congratulations.

Nice shot, how can anyone give this a 3 or even a 4?

It's a very good shot, but in my eyes doesn't meet the challenge. That's how.

I generally don't openly disagree with members, but this deserves my 2 cents.
Landscapes are pretty, a lot of what is around us is pretty, beautiful even, but to see an elderly couple, walking together such as this, to me, is one of the most precious and beautiful things our lives can wish for. The landscapes and pretty things around us will still be there in 20, 50, 100 years, but the moments as seen in this great example of the bond of two human beings, will last but moments, and we all should take the time to see this as one of the great goals while we live on this planet.

Thank you for this shot Adrian, and congrats on your Blue Ribbon.

I agree 100% with you Brad!

And Congrats on a well deserved Blue Adrian.

How can this image not meet the challenge? Beauty in the everyday!I see old couples walking around holding hands everyday and this image is especially beautiful. It obviously has met the challenge in the eyes of many of the voters.

Ohhhhhhhwuh!!! What a beautiful photo! I'm so happy this won. It makes me feel good that something VERY beautiful, simple and "every day" won. . . and one that didn't get all hung on whatever the heck the wabi sabi thing was.

And what Brad said: DITO 100% ! !

Congratulations on your first ribbon. ..which I'm sure will have many others following it!
12/26/2007 10:03:08 AM
I just glanced through the thumbnails and picked this one out for blue. Great shot!
12/26/2007 09:54:15 AM
It may not be Wabi-Sabi, but it sure is Beauty in The Everyday. Gorgeous photo and congratulations on your Blue!! Well deserved.
12/26/2007 08:54:49 AM
Congrats on a beautiful shot DOBRI PHOTO.!

If the challenge was WABI-SABI then Oliver is correct it does not meet the challenge, but I think a large amount of people have no idea about true WABI-SABI anyway. the challenge title was also BEAUTY IN THE EVERYDAY of which this shot is a total winner
12/26/2007 08:10:26 AM
congratulations on your first ribbon...a blue one at that! The light in this is wonderful...hopefully your editing was legal...great job

Great capture, Adrian. The lighting is perfect and photographing the couple from the back adds a touch of poignance to the scene. Congrats on the Blue.

I love the long, strong stride of the gentleman and the way you know that she is able to match each step. What a fortunate capture. Love it.

Wonderful. I wonder if the yellow glow has been brought out too strongly... but this is the kind of shot I would have loved to take for this challenge.

excellent 10

Amazing light. Great shot.
12/20/2007 10:47:10 PM
What a lovely idea, and the golden light bathing the couple is so very appropriate to the mood and your title. I also like the contrast between the straight, evenly spaced trees in formation and the slightly stooped couple who are far more interesting in their asymmetry and motion.
12/20/2007 08:36:33 PM
Really like the shot and treatement. If these people are your family I'm it'll make a nice keepsake photo. Perhaps a stretch for Wabi-Sabi though.

This to me really symbolizes the intent of the challenge well. There's a lot of beautiful things in the world, but this - the two arm in arm on an afternoon stroll - is one of the best things.
