A live, wild, redtail hawk that gave me an early christmas gift by showing up in the neighbor hood on my lunch break. Got to really test my new canon 100-400 on this and this was a lucky shot. I got her while looking at me and blinking her eyes. I'm worried some my think this is a fake bird but it's as live as a bird can get. I wasn't shooting to be in this challenge but saw these eyelids closed in this shot and thought that you do not usually see these so it fits. Guess we will see how we will do.

Post Challenge:
Top ten, nice! Thanks for all the votes and comments. I researched a bit online and I'm pretty sure this is considered the third eyelid, which moistens and cleans the eye. I think it's pretty cool that you can still see the eye through the eyelid. Truely an amazing animal and the squirrls in the area were scrambling every which way trying to get out of eyesite of this hawk. This is one of my favorite photos I've taken of late and I'm happy it was recieved well, thanks again!

wow - what a fortuitous capture - or does he have cataracts? :)

Is this how they blink - without lowering their eyelid? Needs some foreword, I think. Great timing, if you were really aiming for that. If you don't win, it will still have a great use as a poster in some optician clinic.
