I have to disagree with many of the comments, I find this to be poorly composed. There are many better photos in this challenge in my opinion. But thats only my opinion.

I think this movie one was a twist, inspired on "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1956) from Alfred Hitchcok, with James Stewart and Doris Day.

It is really a very well composed image, and right on with the challenge. No doubt, a well deserved blue!
BTW, I think you broke a record here, a BLUE on a very first challenge entry! Congratulations.

"Books", They should not be touched by foot and don't throw them like that. nice photo,
11/29/2007 10:23:59 PM
This one I had to stare at for awhile when voting. Was wondering why all those books got dumped in there. Excellent capture and congrats on the blue!

As we say in Yiddish, it's a Shanda. (sin)
I hate when people throw away books.

Well i am paying my dues... then again, i didn't stumble over something like this on my first one :)

Congrats, let's see the next entry :)
11/28/2007 10:55:45 AM
What a way to start DPC!! Congrats on the ribbon and the wildly creative shot.
11/28/2007 08:37:26 AM
Gave this one a 9...knew it would be up there based on the idea. Made me laugh. Congrats, and your first challenge...Im jealous. Just Kidding
11/28/2007 07:40:04 AM
Congrats, great shot, and it was taken at Fisher, my alma mater. I should have known by the brick. Behind Kearney?
11/28/2007 04:19:06 AM
Congrats on your first entry and first ribbon. What a way to start.
11/28/2007 03:41:01 AM

sweet shot, different, love it, congrats on blue.
11/28/2007 02:05:27 AM
gave an 8, obviously overwhelmingly more for the idea/creativity rather than the photo quality. Congrats on blue.

Thanks for your votes and comments, everybody!

I agree that I should have included the entire container in this shot.

While walking on the balcony surrounding my college's library, I leaned over the handrail and saw the book-filled dumpster from pretty much the same point of view you see in my photo.
This was on the last day of the submission period for this challenge and by the time my model showed up, the sun was already beginning to set (stupid daylight wastings time). The pressure kept me from concentrating, so this was the best shot I ended up with. Still work though, I think.

I'm happy to give those books some final appreciation. Seems like such a waste to toss them, doesn't it? They were mostly outdated physics textbooks, but still.

I know what you guys mean about me winning with my very first entry. Sorry!

I hate it too (when newcomers win ribbons without 'paying their dues'). Actually, I don't, but even if I did there's a glimmer of justice in the world because this is far and away the best entry in the challenge and the ribbon is properly merited.
Congratulations and thanks for entering.
11/28/2007 01:00:57 AM
man nothing personal but i hate when people win a ribbon on their first try and its a blue even!
11/28/2007 12:17:44 AM
im glad this one won.
its just so funny.
11/28/2007 12:01:58 AM
Thats great, congrats on your blue!

Clever. Where did you get all these books?
11/25/2007 09:47:37 PM
Fantastic idea and execution (pun intended)!
11/25/2007 07:34:34 PM
This is genius. I'm a little sad about all the paper that was ruined to make this shot, but the composition and thought behind this makes it worth it.

Well done!
11/25/2007 11:30:28 AM
how did you realize it?! original entry..good job!
11/25/2007 10:00:58 AM
OK, bumping this from a 7 to an 8, would of like to see a better BW conversion, but its a good idea & where the hell did you find a dumpster full of books like that?
11/24/2007 10:00:05 AM
I'd been hoping to find something in this challenge to keep me awake and your little ditty did the job. Like it. Amazing to spot a dead person in a skip full of books like that. Amazing.
11/23/2007 09:58:51 PM
Funny & works well in B/W.
11/23/2007 09:28:04 AM
Technicals: 2/2
Composition: 1/2 - crop is loose at top, tight at bottom; higher POV would have been better (difficult, I can imagine)
Challenge Relation: 2/2
Originality/Creativity: 2/2 - outstanding idea!
Overall Impact: 1/2
8 - one of my top picks in this challenge

That's cool. I think if you cropped away the sides and left the container only, it would be a little more perfect.
11/22/2007 11:32:28 AM
I like this a lot. Very appropriate in all the wrong ways.
11/22/2007 11:08:46 AM
Like it
