This is Aldís who some of may recognize from other entries I have made i the past but I seriously doubt you will cause of the makeup, or thatīs what I hope anyway.

Just got this idea today, hadnīt really thought about the challenge at all but just suddenly had the urge to shoot for it. Well had a small photoshoot at 9pm so I asked Aldís to come by half an hour later to do this, fortunately she was up for it on very short notice, just called her up 2 hours before. Henný did the makeup as usual and it was her idea to make a cross, my original idea was just a black line across the middle of the face.

Am really experimenting with studio lighting right now as I donīt really feel thatīs a weakness of mine, I know I am not exactly blowing people away with my studio lighting and itīs all very safe and boring. Well this one I used a big softbox from the front wich I am standing in front of, you can just barely make me out in the lower left corner of the reflection the softbox makes in the eye. I then used another big softbox almost directly behind and above Aldís for hairlight, was not 100% behind her as I didnīt have access to a boom. Then two smaller softboxes on her sides, just slightly behind her and at the same height as her head to light up the cheeks and sides of her head like that.

As for processing, was not really much besides cleaning up the image, had to straighten some of the lines, clean up black makeup blotches and stuff like that. Of course b/w conversion and then sepia toning, curves for contrast and unsharp mask after resizing + added the black frame.

I am quite happy how this came out and donīt care how it will do in the challenge, I donīt really expect it to go over too well.

I LOVE the fabulous textures you have in your studio pictures, its this awesome distinct look that always recognize immediately and find practically impossible to duplicate. I love the composition and the highlighting on her hair and shoulders, AWESOME image

Nice placement.
The four corners of the center of the cross, form an x spot on the bridge of her nose. "Spot on."

wow, awesome lighting, man, i think it's not at all boring.
the cross reminded me on that car accident campaign, where the icelandic government(?) placed crashed cars in front of a huge black cross at certain places all around the ring road...

I like the result of your lighting setup. The bit of you in the corner of the reflection of the softbox gives it an interesting shape for the catchlight. Now how did she get all that stuff out of her hair?? Nice to see you trying new things, too! Tell your wife she did a great job with the makeup, as always. Your stuff would suck without her, you know.

A really interesting image Larus...thought it would at least be top 10 (so did you, right?)

That was kind of the point with the makeup but thx for taking the time to comment.

Very creative, the lighting is exceptional. I'm gonna take a stab at it, 2 soft rim lights one on either side, 1 above and behind for hair, medium softbox for front fill/catchlight?

I think this is kinda weird and don't understand the point of the paint, but the tones and lighting are so impressive, 9

lighting and concept are great. I find the eyes too white and although not oversharpened in the sense of jagged edges just unnaturally crisp. 7

Very Larus feel to it. Love the eyes in your shot. Lighting is perfect and composition rocks. I don't know why but I would almost like to see the crop to just the top of her hair. Beautiful as always. Tell Henny makeup looks great also and am looking forward to her doing mine when I come up for my shoot. :P

Larus I presume? Very slick! Looks like this could be a character from a Frank Miller comic/movie.

I have a feeling you are going to get knocked down for this not really being a duotone, its a great shot though... but I see tones of Black, White, and Yellows
