It was quite a challenge this time trying to get a "clump" of water to rise menacingly from the water rather than dripping drops into it (as I usually do ;-)
I used a glass bowl filled with tap water coloured with greenish food colouring. Sat the glass bowl on a piece of rainbow coloured paper.
I think the chances of getting a high score with this are not good - I put a lot of work into getting an unusual water shape, but the overall look may be too simple. We'll see.....

Post challenge:

First of all, thanks for the votes and comments. Scorewise, It’s been pretty bumpy week.

I got this “monster out of the water” look by using a small upturned sherry glass to pull the water out (twirling the glass between my fingers whilst pulling to get the structured effect).
I had to crop the glass rim off the image, so that’s the reason the top of the image is cropped right to the edge.

Focussing was a pain, I focussed manually to where I would approx. be pulling the glass out of the water but getting a really good focus plus the right shape took a lot of tries.

Here’s one of the shots from the same series to show you what I mean about the glass rim being visible.

Interesting concept, I think this would have been a ribbon contender if a different angle or perspective was taken. In the Abyss I remember the 'creature' coming towards from the water, more horizontal than vertical. I understand this is a splash, but I am sure there is a way to get a different angle for movement. The technical aspects however are very crisp and clean. very well done.

I just watched this movie again last night - love it! Very cool interpretation here, making the most of what you've achieved with this liquid sculpture. Nice work.

Nice capture but not very compelling subject matter.

very very clever idea - could this possibly be an IreneM shot? regardless, a tried and tested technique made to fit the challenge perfectly.

this is a beautiful shot. i'm not very familiar with this movie, so i will go on technical aspects. i think you've done well. the colors / sharpness of the water is just what voters of DPC are looking for. as far as it depicting a scene from a movie, i don't know. i'll leave that to the majority of the voters to decide. since i do not know the movie well, i'll vote on the image itself. great job!

Great water shot. Love the clarity and colors. Wish that you could have gotten the top of the splash thought IMO. Very nicely done and great idea.

I am not voting, just viewing and commenting a couple... I just have to say, this is going to win a blue ribbon. This is the best macro splash shot I have ever seen. You nailed the colours and the focus is sublime. It even looks like it has a head just like the movie. If this is Irene, WOW girl, all that practice has sure paid off, you get better and better!! If not, you should know that you and IreneM have a lot in common :) Let me be the first to congratulate you! LOL

Love the shape and smoothness of this image - the only knock I have is the jagged edge to the water.

Controversial for this Movie,as the Abyss was in the depths where as this is on the top, good luck..

I'm not sure I like the rose at the bottom and the crop at the top, but it does look like the water tentacle. 6
