New studio lighting - strobist style. =) First portrait shoot with new gear.

Portraits are so much nicer to edit for advanced:
- Sharpen
- Selective soft glow blur
- Color balance and selective color adjustment layers
- Resize, save for web

I have been trying to develop a two layer technique. I am not sure whether other people do it or not but last one month or so I have done some portraits with this. Here is how this works.

The glow in your photo is due to blur effect. Using blur for this type of effect is common. But what is not common is to use blur and sharpening both on same image. Since they are antipodal. Try this.
Create a dublicate layer. Adjust the opacity of top layer to 35 %.
apply sharpening on top layer. Now go to base layer and apply Gaussian blur. See the effect. You can adjust top layer opacity to your taste.

These are two examples:

Wonderful portrait. She's a charmer I'm sure. But I can't help wonder, do you have one where she's looking at the camera?

8 - Beautiful portrait. Clothing is pretty and adds nice character. Lighting is very nice. Only two things I can suggest are the background / backdrop visible bottom left (more in or else out) and possibly a variation in crop/framing, but both quite minor.

The clarity here is stunning. The intenstity of the colors, the depth of the tones and contrasts. Everything is so delicate and life-like. Breath-taking image.

That's pretty amazing. Not a typical cutesy baby shot. Exquisite lighting. Love the purple sweater and hat.

I don't care where this image lands in the end. But it's #1 in my book. Just gave it a 10 and a favorite! Great job!
