We went to the beach tonight to shoot but missed the sunset by a bit. By the time I got out to the pier it was just a bit late but we decided to see what we could get with longer exposures.
For some reason tonight the power plant wasn't running; not sure why it's down sometimes. Anyway, I bracketed a lot of shots for this but they came out really grainy so I ended up using just 3 for HDR/tonemapping.
Once in PS I applied NI, boosted levels, applied NikEfex Midnight filter which gave it the eerie effect, just in time for Halloween. A bit of color dodging/burning (using existing colors in sky), and painted the power plant orange instead of the bright yellow. The dark vignette on right and right bottom was natural in the picture so I added a bit more to left and top to balance it out.
Note to self: check your ISO, check your ISO, check your ISO. Lots of grain at 400 shot at night! |
