This shot was taken in Toronto. I was on my way to a one day course on photoshop (sad I couldn't use what I learned) and happened on several potential shots. I took some of a strike by hotel workers seeking wage parity, a protest, an arrest and this homeless guy asleep in the bus shelter. So after much debate on the merrits of all the shots this one won out. It looked the best straight out of the camera.

I asked this guy if I could take his photo and he replied "as long as I don't have to $#@%ing get up I don't care."

Edit: Desaturation that's it.

it's a good shot. I'm not totally sure you can make the correlation between mental illness and that person's particular unfortunate situation.

this is very sad, but the sad truth for so many with mental illness.

For me, it's not a bad image. It doesn't hold my interest for too long. Perhaps if there had been one or two additional people standing by it would have been more effective.

Tronna! I recognize the TTC, the shelter, and I think I even gave that homeless person some change last year.

I really like your take on the challenge. Very powerful statement. The angle you approached and composition really work for this shot. Great B&W conversion. I think this shot in advanced would have crushed any street photography challenge out there. Great work.

Great capture, very photojournalistic. Like the slight blur of the trolley
