I've always been fascinated with contrasts in nature, like the rocky surface of a nacre shell and it's smooth silky insides. I borrowed the shells from a friend and took several shots in diverse angles and lighting conditions. This is the one I liked the most. I cropped it, changed it to Black and White, Neat Imaged it and resized it for submission.

The botton part of the shell has little focus. May be you can increase the DOF.

good contrast, but would like to see it on an authentic BG

nice...

the idea is interesting and the detail of the shell is great but the "contrast" of the pearl is less detailed and slightly out of focu. Good start:7

Nice idea but I wish there was less mid range grey.

Well thought out, and nicely executed. Would have been 10 if the pearl was outlined better to enhance the smoothness

I really think this could use some color. I like the contrast of the rough outside and the smooth pearl/inside.

yeah but you should've had more of the smooth part in the photo.

Excellent composition and use of texture to make your shot. One of my favs

Great as black and white only thing that left most part laks a bit of sharpness.

Excellent shot. Like your title says it's a good contrast between the roughness of the oyster shell and smoothness of the pearl.

lighting too flat for me

Would have liked more in focus and a bit more variance in the tone of this shot, but I think it's a great idea for texture.

What an intriguing subject well done in B&W a pity the pearl is not sharper. A 7

I think the shell in front [and yes I realize it's showing the texture] could of been placed better. I think we see too much of it. With these two reversed we'd of still seen plenty of texture. Composition. You did well on lighting, tones and focus. Good luck in the challenge.

Nice picture. But I miss the color of mother-of-pearls in this image.

There's a 1970's low-contrast feel to this - quite interesting. Certainly captured the texture of the outside, but the pearl and the inside of the shell seem to have been relegated to almost an insignificant detail. Composition doesn't work for me - perhaps because of the tight crop on the left of the shell and leaving the right side open.
