i revisited one of my favorite subjects, the bodie island lighthouse...

it will be interesting to see if i've improved as far as dpc goes. i like the shot entered, i like the previous shot. i'd really like to spend the night there, just because there never seems to be enough time to try everything i want to try. oh well, c'est la vie...

----post-vote----------
rats! i dropped from a 7.05 at rollover :(

anyways, thanks for the votes, especially the faves! that's really cool, and appreciated!!

yes, there's movement in the clouds because the wind was blowing... pretty wild conditions to be out shooting. at least it wasn't raining.

typically for me, there wasn't much to the post-processing. the noise that's visible doesn't bother me, and the prints have come out stellar.

btw... the light on the right is all moonlight (this was shot 11pm-ish); the light on the left is from incadesccent porch lights on an outbuilding about 70yds away. at 25", though, light can do strange things ;-)

thanks again!

Love this! Can't say anything else about it.
Are the stars still points because the shutter wasn't open long enough for the trails to become apparent?

This photo is amazing. I only hope that I have some nice weather when I visit Outer Banks at the end of this week!

So Skip, any suggestions on places/things to shoot? I am mainly looking to do Landscapes, Seascapes, Architecture types of things.

Amazing image. One of my "tens" -- love the combination of sunset (sunrise?) and starshine.

The darks lack detail in this version, especially in the forground. And, I find the wispy out-of-focus clouds somewhat jarring in an otherwise tranquil night scene.

I'm not sure how you did this - it will be interesting to find out. I like it alot. The clouds on the right blending into the darker ones on the left. In some ways, the light on the lighthouse itself almost appears artificial to me. Also, if I look at it in a certain way, it makes me think the structures are actually plastic miniatures because of the lighting.

This is very, very pretty. I love the stars and the movement in the clouds. Some manual clean-up of the grain on the sides of the lighthouse would make this a stunner. Still a 7.

It gives me the impression that the subject is being held in it's own time capsule. The image is interesting and thought provoking.

Would love to know the details of this. Like the long exposure and the effect on the clouds. Only gripe is the noise

This shot does it all for me. The clarity on the lighthouse, the sky, the color, it all works. Just incredible. The only 10 I've given out so far. Even though there is a slight bit of noise in the clouds its still top notch. Great work and thanks for a new fav!
