I have wanted to shoot something like this for some time now, and this gave me the chance to do it. I tried to add my own style to it, but I REALLY REALLY like the way this turned out. MUCH thanks to Larus for a few insites. You're truly an inspiration bud.

I don't expect a ribbon out of this, but I am REALLY hoping to get out of this sub-6 rut i'm in. if this is a mid-5 image, who cares, i REALLY like it.

Post Processing:
raw conversion (contrast and white balance fixes)
b&w conversion w/ channel mixer
ran high pass filter on hard light channel to entire image (cut down opacity somewhat)
new layer, ran high pass filter on the background (and shoulders).
dodge and burn quite a bit
resize
smart sharpen
save for web
finished

i hope you all enjoy. thanks again Larus.

Well done Jon, you did add some of your own flavour which is good actually...Larus would be happy that his shot was emulated well by two photographers...well done

Good job! Both of the two "dirty" tributes are great. Nice high key photo, with great DOF and gorgeous eyes. 8

Nice take on the Larus shot, I like how it is different but has very much the same feel to it. Tecnically spot on as well

Has the same style as Larus, shallow DOF and very sharp. Good luck. 8

The other shot in this challenge looks and feels more like Larus's photo in general, but this one is more captivating and matches what Larus had going with his model. If that makes sense.

Wow! The whites of her eyes really stare back out at you! That is the first thing that reaches out, grabs you by the collar, and draws you in. You have a great dynamic range in your B&W tones. The clarity of details in wonderful especially in your model's face. Wonderful job you did here.

Hehe, honored you chose one of mine to tribute :) Dig the noise and the white sand/dirt instead of the black I used.

this is an interesting spin on the shot but I was under the impression we were supposed to emulate it as closely as possible and this seems like its completely opposite with the dark colors and white colored dirt. On its own in a free study or something I would have scored this higher I think. I love the detail in her skin and lips. awesome shot
