This challenge is about the technicals of trying to get a shot as much like another as possible. In a way I don't like that because while Ursula's picture reflects something personal and intimate, mine is an impersonal study in mimicry.

Still, it was fun to try. The first step was finding these crazy flowers. I found a few at home, was forced to take my first attempt in 20 minutes before driving up to Seattle and wound up getting the lighting all wrong. Hoping to find more, I drove the streets around my parent's for 30 minutes and finally located another clump. Over a few hours I adjusted and honed and adjusted again and think the final result is quite nice. Interstingly, while Ursula used f/2.8, I felt the closest rendition was at f/8.0. I couldn't get the veins of the pedals to show up at lower apertures. The flower is simply shot with ambient light from a window.

I still want to give full credit to Ursula, and while I'd love to win a ribbon, somehow I'll feel odd if this winds up on my profile page.

PP is extensive:
S/H 10/10
Burn the stem and lower background
Levels to shift the right background from green to blue.
Hue/Sat to shift the oranges to yellows on the edges of the petals.
Big boost in contrast
Cloning of some tiny blemishes on the petals, cloned part of the lower petal out. Cloned an artifact ring around the upper petal from the color shifts.
gaussian blur on the upper right corner to blend some cloning
resize, sharpen. No border (weird, I always use a border, but Ursula didn't so there you go).

Here's Ursula's original masterpiece:

I only now realized that this is ribbon number two-oh, which is exactly as many as Ursula has. Go figure. I'm tickled about that.

Wow...the color, light and composition of the original really carries the weight of genius through your rendition as well. Two photographs (and two photographers) well matched! Congrats on earning yet another ribbon!

Very nice, but I think I prefer Ursula's because of the added contrast caused by the dark strips from overlapping petals. Nevertheless, good work and congrats on the ribbon.

After viewing the original, I like this one better. The two are very similar and I applaud you for making almost and exact copy. I love that this flower is a little more open. Over all it it a very well executed photo.

There's a couple of things I like about the original a bit more, but this is a great copy. The strong blue triangle in the original keeps the composition flowing more, along with the overall better sharpness and selective focus that again keeps my eye moving around.

I think you did a great job recreating the general style and feel of the shot though.

I found out this week how hard it is to mimic someone else's work, and finished it a week too late to even enter. You did a fantastic job emulating one of my favorite images on this site. Congrats on number 20!

That's a hell of a replica. Great work! Where you fall a little short of hers is in that green fringing on the petals top right. I like the light on the stem on yours, though, I think :-)

I absolutely love the colors captured here. The hues on that poppy really do pop off the page. You did a great job emulating Ursula's piece. The hues of orange and yellow are bold & vibrant yet I can almost 'feel" the petal softness as I gaze upon this composition. The bit of blue and green the peek through is the perfect complimentry background for this flower.
