I really like yakatme's original so I thought I would give it a try. I couldn't find a leaf with more red in it but I thought this one would work. I know it's not nearly as good as the original but I hope he likes it!
Sooooo close! Thanks for all the great comments everyone!

I like the strong colour, and the contrast between the simplicity of the frog and the detail on the leaf. A favourite.

Looks like you fell victim to the self-fulfilling prophecy of having a picture with dominant green wind up winning the "green" ribbon. Been there and done that! ;)

Sorry you just missed out on your first ribbon. I am quite sure you will get there soon enough.

In response to your comment "...but I hope he likes it!", I have to say that I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I am honored and very flattered that you chose Rainforest to pay tribute to. Thank you.

No, you weren't able to find a leaf with any red in it, but the detail that you got in the leaf structure is amazingly good and has a 3D look to it. It seems that you were actually able to get some shadows around the veins of the leaf.

Everything, from the position of the frog, the scale of the frog versus the leaf, the crop around the leaf so that the veins at the top exit the image at almost the exact same place as my crop, to even the border around the image has been very well recreated. You definitely took some time to pay attention to the details and recreate them here. edit to add---> I just noticed that you even found the original frog silhouette. I thought that you probably printed out Rainforest and cut out the frog from that. But no, the silhouette was cut out in a slightly different way and I can tell that it was as difficult for you as it was for me making clean cuts around the small details.

I am wondering if it was difficult to pull this off since it took me so many attempts and many retakes to overcome the various problems that I encountered, or were you able to accomplish this detailed reproduction easily by following my comments as to how I was finally able to make it? Did you find an easier way of cutting out the frog? What was your setup and did you also tape the leaf to glass for the backlighting? It would be very interesting to hear your account of how you created this great image.

Again, very nicely done with so much attention paid to the details of the original. It would have been nice to see this on the front page again but a top 5 finsh is a great accomplishment. Thank you for paying tribute to one of my images.

Well, since the original used a cut-out image I guess we can let you get by with the same. Very nice image. Not identical; to the origina but in ways more interesting IMHO.

Excellent details on the leaf. Love how you got a 3D effect on it.
Now that we all know about the silhouette, one could spot some "imperfections" there, but taht doesn't take away anything from the image. Nicely done!!!

Excellent, even taking into consideration it is a different kind of leaf (we have what we have). I will rate this one on the original artists intention . I think it is spot on in every aspect, a ten from me.

The shape and positioning of the frogs limbs alomost loosk identical to the original. Did you print it and cut the frog out?

The lighting is great. One of the best renditions in the challenge.

I liked the original a lot and I like this one as well. Love the green and the branching while the frog shadow keeps bringing the eye back into the composition.

The level of detail on the leaf and the rich green and yellow tones is simply stunning!!! Love the shadow of the frog that we see from the underside of this leaf. You did a stunningly bang up job on reproducing the original. Really excellent work and I have absolutely nothing to suggest on how to improve this one:-)
