Here's a tip on how I made the border:
I used Photoshop for it and used a very simple procedure:
1. rectangular selection where the inner part of the border should be
2. inversion of the selection
3. Gaussian blur of the outer part of the border
4. back-inversion of the selection
5. with Edit/Stroke I made a 2 px wide line out of the selection.

It's rather easy and you might apply other effects/filters to the border too.

Greetings,

Jörg

You did it again :)

I didn't have time to vote (or to submit a photo) so when I was just browsing this challenge I noticed a familiar name. I think you have deservedly won another ribbon. Keep up the good work!

From critique club.

I gave this image one of the highest scores in the challenge and glad that it did well in the final. Warm, soft mahogany of the comb and live gold of the hair please the eye.

The frame creates the 'zoom' illusion which I think works great here - my compliments.

I was experimenting with my daughter's hair and wooden comb too, but did not get anything acceptable. The birch comb with it's sparkling texture and dark hair looked very cold even with colored lghting. And this rendition I like much more.

My only problem in the end is that hair and comb is too trait theme ;-)

Juhu!
:) Thanx for all your votes and comments :)

I actually didn't expect to get a ribbon for it, but now I'm very happy.
It was one of my most expensive images so far: 2.5 Euro for the comb, 3.99 Euro for a brush I didn't use and most important 3.99 Euro for a Happy Meal at McDonalds for Kira. Otherwise it would have been difficult for me to work in/with her hair for almost 30 min.
I actually wanted to make something different, showing her combing herself, because she has very long hairs by now. Didn't work well so.
So when she was laying on the floor, watching TV, I was able to try several positions of the comb in her hair and finally got the submitted one. As most times now, as light source I used my old external flash bouncing at the ceiling. This flash has been my third best photographical investment (after the canon A40 and G3): did cost me 45 Euro and works like magic to me.

I was pretty sure that the border might be liked and disliked. And so it went: 5 comments pro border, 5 comments contra. But I tired various other ones and they didn't work. No border didn't work at all!

Thanks again,

Jörg

Great, love the comb and it goes well with the hair. The border lost you a point but still in my top 10 this week.

I find the border distracting. Good photo otherwise.

This looks like a great picture to go on a box of hair tint. I like the way the color of the comb kind of blends in with her hair color. Nice hair and a good picture. I think this is also a good border for this shot. That might be part of the reason I think it would be a successful marketing photo. Good luck 7

i love the clarity of this photo and how the brush blends yet contrasts nicely with the hair. Nice touch on blurring the border, it works well to add to the overall impact of the photograph. Great shot! 8

Brilliant shot!!! Really nice colours, soft and calming. The border really adds here, might have been better if it wasn't blurred though. Still a really good shot! Well done! 10

Excellent shot. Very clear and crisp focus. The texture of the hair and the wood grains of the comb are what gives this it's 'wow' factor.
