I had nothing for this Free Study, I went to SF and different places but didn't like much of it. My girlfriend had told me about the eclipse and she wanted to watch it. Little did she know... :P. I saw a time lapse photo and wanted to try that out. So we went up the hill where I shot "The Stargazers" shot from the trees challenge. I set up my D50 with my wide angle lens and my D200 with my cheap 70-300. I shot each closeup moon shot at 300 mm on a tripod. I have a cool sequence of wide angle shots that I shot to use to place the moon exactly where it should be but ended up not using it for this. I shot from about 1:50 am to 5:30 am. The first moon and the last moon are the same as I missed a little of the beginning. This is one shot for every 5 minutes the whole time. It took way too long to edit, CS2 crashed twice. I had a different Idea of placing the moons into a scene with stars, but I don't know how to make a black night sky and have stars and rest of the scene in color. Seriously, are you still reading this? It looked bad and to cut out each moon from the black background to try and match the sky looked horrible and it was painstaking. In the end I took what I may have used for a Free Study of the Cliff House in SF and used the darkest bracketed exposure and put it underneath the moon shots. The moons are a little big but whatever.

Technicals.
With D200 and Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6G @ 300 mm
Full and partial moon shots: ISO 100, 1/13-1/125 at f8
Total Eclipse shots: ISO 400, 3 sec at f5.6

Cliff house
Nikon D50 and Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Nikon
Two exposures:
ISO 200, 30 sec at f4
ISO 200, 5 sec at f4
Blacked out the ocean and clouds.

All shots used a Kelvin Temp of 4050, the color of moon weren't changed. I did no color adjustments after converting from from Raw.
I hope I don't have to validate this. 41 shots. :P

I figured this would be your shot, Joe, since you're the only person I know who would go spend the entire night down by the Cliff House. ;-) Very nice composite!

Amizing shot amazing patience you must have. You got the expusure just right but I think its lacks a better forground. That house on the left is distracting.

Compared to the others who had the same idea, I like the layout of the moon and exposure but the foreground is just not working for me at all.

Love the technique. Some of the moons look out of the circular path. Would have loved a mo interesting foreground.
