I like dismantling things...

-----------------------------

Thanks for all the kind comments, I guess (being a geek...) I thought it was obvious what it was! I was kind of surprised by all the DNMC comments! Well I learned a valuable leason "Never Assume" (its makes a ass of u and me!)

Wonderful image, congrats! I can't believe this scored so low. I guess it's due to wrongful DNMC punishment.

You're right, most people have never seen an opened hard drive. Most never will do either. And few will take one apart. I like your photo and did not vote all of the photos in this challenge - I missed yours out too, simply because time has been short for me lately.

Terrific image and certainly DMC! Had I voted, I would have give you an 8. Beautifully done.

Congrats on an interesting image. I bet getting the sky reflected on the platter like that was a true challenge. I didn't have time to comment, but did give you a vote of 7. Maybe if you'd had a platter with a crack or imperfection, the DNMC people would have recognized that you'd met all challenge requirements.

OK I guess I should apologise. I did not realise that this was on a reflective surface and I scored it pretty low (3). I guess my ignorance has adversely impacted on your score so I hold my hands up and say sorry

just to let you know - i have no idea what the objects are, but i assumed (!) they were on a reflective surace - it's pretty obvious. lovely image.

I cannot believe this was scored so low! It is excellent in all aspects of photography... as well as deceptively right on the money with the challenge. As far as I can see... this should have been, if not in ribbon ranking, then most definitely top ten.

Congrats on such a wonderful shot!

I agree. People that thought this was some weird object against the sky haven't seen those hokey disk drive ads that show a drive almost identical to this except for the normal brown surface, even though few people have actually seen the inside of a disk drive (I've seen PLENTY). This was one of my two 9 votes, and I haven't given a 10 for a while. This was terribly underrated.

Awesome! I think a lot of people don't realize drive platters are reflective.

ok i usually give people the right to there opinion but anyone who said this DNMC is IGNORANT and i use that in the dictionary sense, the platter is there and just reflecting the sky, those of you who say dnmc owe an apology since you have clearly never seen a hard drive opened! i love this shot and i cant believe mine finished ahead of this, you definitely are getting a posthumous ribbon from me

I don't know what this is, but it has nice colours and crisp focus.

Excellent picture and title. Did you rip apart a disk drive to get this? I like the reflection of the sky making the double-entendre of the title. Excellent macro, composition and sharpness as well as getting the close-up as well as the clouds in focus. 9

Rules state: "Compose your photograph so that nothing but your subject is in the frame." Nice photo but you didn't quite get the "fill the frame" idea.

Excellent... hope everyone will see what it is.

interesting shot, good lighting and crop. I enjoy the reflection of the sky. Unfortunately, as the title already implies ("Free Disk Space" might have worked better), your subject doesn't fill the frame.

Love the title! It's worth an extra point. :D
