Challenge: Negative Space (Classic Editing)
Camera: Sony Mavica FD-71
Location: Pto Piritu, Venezuela
Date: Sep 12, 2002
Date Uploaded: Sep 13, 2002

This is sooooooooo pretty and the silhouette is wonderful. So is the lighting the coloring and the mood. There is a problem here though. I'm sure you've already heard about it several times. The horizon is tilted. I do it a lot myself. There is a solution though. Just rotate the image and then trim off the excess. This would have scored very high if it weren't for the one flaw. Nice job anyway though. I like it. Good luck in the challenge! Grayce aka Gracious

Excellent title. Photo is soft on focus, and exhibits an unfortunate nuber of JPEG artifacts. And, it could be rotated clockwise by about 3-5 degrees.

neg space needs to be more pronounced this week. nice photo

I like this shot and the sky is just beautiful. I'd like the far bank to be horizontal in the frame. Because there is such richness of detail - the silhouettes, the sky and the branches, this doesn't really feel like a shot with negative space to me. That's not to say a sunset silhouette couldn't be, but this one just has so much going on.
I appreciate that this is according to my personal definition of negative space and your mileage may vary ;)

The horizon is running a bit uphill from left to right. IMO, its a little too busy with the sun. It is a nice shot however

Beautiful

This photo has potential, but your horizon isn't level. Also I would have tried several different compositions of this scene to frame it better.

Need to straighten your horizon.

poor quality

WOW! What a *beautiful* pic! I give you a 10!

Dont drink too heavily when taking photos, or the horizon will start to droop at one end.

This picture looks scanned in.

Nice sunset but it's a pitty the horizon isn't straight. I suffer from producing slanting pictures so I got very good at using the rotate and crop tools in Photoshop :-)

if only the picture weren't tilted to the left, and the tree sticking out wasn't there. nice job on the setting, with a little work on the execution this would be much better.

great place and photo but it looks like the file size was too compressed
09/16/2002 03:51:00 PM
This is a pet peeve of mine - straighten the horizon, especially on water, gravity does.
09/16/2002 03:26:00 PM
Your compression is causing this photo to look blurry. I think the shot is good. Score 6 Justine

The focus on this one is a bit too soft. Also, the picture is a bit crooked. I like what you were going for here. Meets the challenge.

this shot qualifies for the challenge, however, your horizon is rather tilted (but not enough to suggest it was done deliberately), and the photo is rather pixelated, probably due to the file being saved at 1/3 of the allowable size. there are some tutorials on this site to help you maximize the photo quality, i'd also be happy to try and help if you want to send me an email. -- gr8photos.

It's a nice photo but a little grainy (possibly as a result of cropping and resizing?)

This is a great shot. I like the rays coming over the clouds. It looks like the picture has had some Jpeg compression or something in the clouds. 6
