 Long exposure looking north from the dock of my wife's family's cottage on Groton Pond. Shot at 10 mm - the widest angle is just amazing; this is cropped in some. I used bulb mode with a cable release.

This was at about 1:00 am. It was basically pitch black. I could certainly see the stars, but no detail on the ground, and no reflection in the water. The horizon had only the faintest glow to it.

Editing was typical: brightened quite a bit (which brought the faint glow out to the really nice orange), curve for contrast, noise reduction sharpening, and a selective color layer to darken the mid-tones. The only unusual thing was a hue/sat layer to reduce the purple haze spots along the edges from overheated spots on the sensor.

I was surprised at how colorful it got after brightening.

So cool. I would never have considered leaving the shutter open for 22.5 minutes. I'm going to try that in Michigan (if I have the capability on my camera.) Great title to connect the shot to the challenge.

I need to check, but I think this was the same date I lucked into awesome night sky here also! (was my Rural image)

I was atop the Green Mountains as well during this period (at Woodford). A little bit chilly in the tent, it was. But the night sky was well worth it. The view of the shuttle and ISS was quite good as were the meteors. I hope you had fun too.
