Challenge: Backlighting III (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM

Aperture: 18
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/4000

It’s pretty much a straight out of the camera shot. I was about 600 feet away from the rider, and I was really trying to photograph the dust layers, which the horses stirred, being back light by the sun. So the order in the photograph goes like this (Sun then layers of dust then the rider then the last layer of dust that had received the darker shadow of the rider then 600 feet away the lens then me)

Way cool. Love this shot. It's very artistic, and not as commercial as other DPC shots (not that I don't like those as well). Wish I could have voted on it.

Interesting effect; I like the motion but it does not appear to me that you avoided silhouetting your subject. I would probably crop at least a third more off the top to get rid of most of the glaring white and make the horse and rider a bigger part of the image.

Great shot. A little abstract due to the overlapping.

Here's the catch: the subject must not become a silhouette because of the backlighting.

Sorry, this image is not to my taste, way too artsy for me. Gave you a 5 to try and influence your score as little as possible either way.

I'm sorry, I have to say it...SILHOUETTE! Even when I stand up & peer down at my LCD monitor from directly above it. Other than that, it's a very interesting picture.

Nice image - Great image very striking - My only complaint is that it is a silhouette and the challenge stated not to be. Such a shame - Brilliant image non the less but must be marked down for that.

not sure how you did this - it almost looks like a double exposure. Very artistic. I could see this as an fine art shot after some PP work, or maybe cropping. I would suggest cropping off the entire top halk, and leaving only the very bottom of the blown sun - just the rays.

"Here's the catch: the subject must not become a silhouette because of the backlighting."

You'll probably hear that a few times...
