Challenge: Painting with Light (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Olympus C-4000Z
Location: Toronto, at home
Date: Jan 25, 2004
Aperture: f-11
ISO: 100
Shutter: 16 sec.
Galleries: Family, Emotive
Date Uploaded: Jan 25, 2004

Nicholas was standing in front of my husband Tony, who was tracing the outline of his body with lit sparkler.

Camera set to the maximum time (16 seconds), with the highest aperture (f-11) and the lowest ISO (100).

This was not the best challnege for me. I would have kept trying for better shot, but I run out of spaklers. This photo was just for the fun of it.

Feb. 2, 2004: Well, what do you know. I have guessed wrong. I thought this would not do well. It was certainly fun for the whole Pascal bunch :-))

Thank you so much everyone for the great feedback. This was so much fun.

My son is very proud of the photo too, as he was so scared of the flames. But it was very harmless and tought him that if you use it with care, sparkles can be lots of fun.

Great job. I tried doing this last July 4th, but couldn't get an assistant brave enough! Kept getting scared about the sparks. Your results are better and closer to the human form than mine. Good job.

THE most interesting shot for this challenge. Great idea! This is top-3 guaranteed in my book. I hope you didn't damage your nice floor with the sparks

Wonderfully creative and right on the schallange. Do like how the boy is lit by the light. One of my favorits. Good luck

I think this is really cool effect. Two things that I might change go with darker socks to make the outfit uniform. Head up maybe looking up to the sky/ceiling instead of down. Just observations it still cool looking.

Now that I think of it, I'm surprised not to see more sparkler shots. Good take on the challenge, one of the best.

Great image, but I would have like this more with a female nude and a compleat black background (floor included) I think that would have given off just enough light to highlight the female feature, kind of like in the Bond Film Intros.

Finally! A shot that seems to have met the challenge, AND in a creative way! The description of the challenge specifically said to use a non-stationery light source, and practically nobody followed that requirement. And those who DID follow it haven't done nearly the job you have done here, in my opinion. Congrats on an awesome, awesome shot. I hope very much to see this wearing a blue ribbon next week! - 10

How many goes before you set him alight? The only thing I would have tried to do was to keep the sparkler a bit further back to keep light off the hands. On second thoughts.....No. It's right as it is

Fun! I like how there is interest in both what the light shines on and the light itself. I wish the floor were as dark as the rest of the background - it reminds us of reality when the photograph it trying to take us away on a flight of fancy.

Very nice idea and well executed. The light coming from floor is a bit distracting. Maybe if you had you subject positioned on something less shiny? Over all very good job!

Wow. Very cool. My only beef: I wish the subject was looking right into lens.

This is excellent work... by far one of the more creative ideas I have seen in this challenge. I love the idea. I don't know if you tried this or not, but it could have been interesting to see what this would have looked like by putting the sparkler in front of your subject instead of behind. That could have illuminated your subject for a nice effect as well... excellent work :) = 10

Good exposure in my opinion!

This is really really well done - my only negative would be that it looks like his feet have been chopped off - would have been good to include feet shapes! This image is a lot of fun!
