 This was achieved by painting a lion sillhouette onto a canvas, hanging it on a wall, and strategically offering food bribes to my cat to get her where I wanted her. Used 3 Alien Bee strobes to get the even lighting and to avoid Mama Kitty actually casting any real shadows.

Post processing: Desaturate, adjust levels, dodge highlights & burn shadows, gaussian blur on the lion sillhouette and unsharp mask on the cat.

Here's an outtake from this challenge: . I actually liked this one better, but couldn't submit it because my camera date was off.

After Challenge: Woooooohoooo! My first Blue! Thanks so much for the votes & comments - I'm off to go pour cans of tuna in Mama Kitty's dish...

I voted a 10, and I knew this would win. Im happy it did, It's very creative. Congrats on putting your lens on the map with it's first ribbon on DPC.

Obviously, you connected with the viewers on this one and did very well. As a matter of fact, when I logged into dpc this morning, my kids (5 and 2) walked by and it caught their attention of all the pictures on the home page, and they had to look at it for a bit. :)

The intent stare of the cat, I think, really makes this shot. he looks totally focused on the task at hand. That contrasts nicely with the shadow.

The focus, lighting and details present all add the overall effectiveness of this shot.

Very nice work and congrats on the ribbon.

I missed this image when I was voting for this challenge. Too bad - I was hoping to find a "10" image - and this one should have been it! Very nice work.

Wow, congrats. Great photo, and now a ribbon of each color. The same is true for the second place Shadow photographer, too! I agree your alternate entry has a slight edge technically (sharper cat?), but this is deserving nonetheless.

Awesome set up. I know it would ribbon the second I saw it. Looks like something the ribbon hogs would do. Now that you know what it takes, just keep bringing it back to the table and you will be winning ribbon after ribbon. Congrats on your first blue.

This is really well done and deserves a ribbon...my only neg is that the profile of the lion isn't quite right, but that's minor 8

ugh, do i smell ribbon? but ever good job on the photo, might have helped if the kittys mouth was open too, but it dosent take from the photo.
