This is a neat shot, though I can't see how it was "painted with light". I didn't mark down because of that, though. The problem with this shot is two fold. Most importantly, whatever lighting you applied (flash? flashlight?) served to do nothing but highlight the snow falling directly in front of you. It's kinda distracting. Second, the composition is a bit off. I think the trees on the left that are almost incidental in this shot could have been reframed to serve as a lovely "border" for the photo.

the white balance might have been chosen better in this...do like the relative quick shutter speed used I'm guessing with a high speed and flash and the capture of the flakes of snow, but that eechy color from about two third down up is not pleasing.

This is such a good idea. The near snow distracts my eye from the rest of the composition

This photo will likely suffer 'does not meet the challenge' votes. The scene itself is quite interesting but there doesn't seem to be a moving light source that is being used to illuminate your subject. That being said, I think this would have made a strong black and white with a slightly longer exposure (maybe one stop or so) and if you had not used the on camera flash. You have mixed two different light temperatures in this image by doing that. This shot needs a tripod and no flash :)

This is a very evocative picture - and one I like very much but does not seem to satisfy the principles of "painting with light" - either a moving light source or long exposure with repeated illumination from different locations

This might have been more interesting without whatever light source is blowing out the snow flakes in the foreground. On-board flash maybe?

My only suggestion would be to crop the lower part of this photo. The light is too white on the lower section.

I feel that one thing is missing:
Use a non-stationary light source as the primary method of illuminating your subject in a creative manner.

I like this a lot.

Where's the non-stationary light source??
