Challenge: Painting with Light (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Minolta DiMAGE 7Hi
Location: Montpellier, France
Date: Jan 20, 2004
Aperture: F/8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 8s
Galleries: Performance, Macro
Date Uploaded: Jan 21, 2004

A long exposure shot of my new Plasma Ball. I setup a black background, and titled the lamp horizontally so that the axis wouldn't show.

Setup the camera on tripod, on axis with the lamp.

Set my aperture to minimum (F/8) so I could expose 8 seconds and get a nice diffuse effect of the plasma rays.

Curves and brightness were adjusted in Photoshop. Cropped square and border added. No other editing.

Hope you like it.

I like this shot a lot but I think that it might not meet the challenge of a moving light source, at least techniquely. I'm at odds as to how I should rate this since it is such a fantastic shot. Rught now it is a 7 but I feel it might be an unfair score since I don;t see the PWL technique in use.

With all the complaints on some threads about 'Too many plasma ball shots' you are brave. Looks good to me and fits the challenge nicely. Good luck.

i think this is teh best plasma photo i have seen yet.. great job! the only suggestion i can make from my humble opinion is that i think i would like the hand better if it was may be a little more exposed...perhaps from underneath.. but it already is a great photo...

This is amazing. Wish I could do something like this. I wasn't brave enough to even try for this challenge. Now I know why.

Reminds me of a scene from the Lord of the Rings :-)) Nice detail in the sphere. I really like that you included the hand. It ads mystery to othewise simple subject. Great interpretation.

Very neat looking shot with cool colors. I think hiding the hand would also look cool. Good luck in the challenge.

Nice use of this plasma light! Moving light - illuminates your hand and the glass. Very cool result. Looks like the ball is being suspended by some magical power of light that you are creating. I like all the darkness around the subject. good work. 9
