Wow!! They complain about the "fat hairy" naked pencil guy, and then they complain that this model "doesn't have the body" LOL... I feel sorry for people who think that art only includes the "skinny, perfect, body". I'm going to do a nude some day. I swear I will.

uhm, not really sure about this photo...
09/15/2002 11:07:00 PM
This is just... Odd. Really odd. REALLY REALLY odd.
But you know, I like it. 7 -lennier

Aha. The young boy was caught doing the nasty with a vegetable. 6 for originality.
09/15/2002 10:42:00 AM
I don't get it. Sorry.
09/14/2002 10:06:00 PM
I dont understand
09/14/2002 01:03:00 PM
Odd...lol but good job. Good luck in the callenge. Gracious aka Grayce

nice study of forms, but still a rather uninteresting picture. The eggplant chair shouldn't cut off the man's shoulder so much. The colors are boring. I think the lighting could be improved.
09/14/2002 11:41:00 AM
There's something so weird and sadistic about this! I don't understand it, but I love it!
09/14/2002 10:17:00 AM
not worth voting on

Interesting, I like the DOF.
09/13/2002 02:17:00 PM
Okay, I will admit, I do not understand this picture at all. Photographically speaking, the focus is good and I like how the chairs pull your eyes up and to the left. I think it is a bit dark and could possible benefit from some brightening or contrast. The colors are a bit bland, for me. karmat

This is great and really unusual.
I would like the guy to be slightly swivelled to face the wall more, I know the aubergine doesnt have a face side but it seems (in my mind) to be facing the front of the chair whereas Mr is facing the far corner.
Can I see your outtakes?
(No rude ones though:)

The conclusion I draw is that it's lucky for aubergines that they don't have legs :-)

The eggplant w/o the guy might have been more interesting. Not sure I get the message here. 5 sjgleah

I don't get it but it's cute. I'm torn on the lighting. I like the way the subjects are lit but I don't like how blotching(best word I can think of) the walls look with the low light.
09/11/2002 07:24:00 PM
lighting is good, except that I see reflection on the chair and the fruit. I also don't have a taste for this sort of subjectmatter. Perhaps if you were to have a nude woman....
09/11/2002 02:33:00 PM
This is a hard image to assimilate and understand. I don’t feel I was able to get the message, but I believe it's there. I think it's deserving and interesting. I price the effort to do something unique and deep. I don't think people here will get it, since they have shown to be very uneasy with what they don't understand. I am sure a simple well executed photo of a pretty and colorful fruit will win. I would be very interested in learning your vision for this rendering.
09/11/2002 10:15:00 AM
There might be some kind of 'high art' thing happening here, but I don't see it. The composition is strained at best, and the lighting seems very strange. The subject matter is also just plain confussing. What is this suppose to be a picture of?
09/11/2002 08:58:00 AM
Do NOT understand this shot.
09/11/2002 04:44:00 AM
I'm not sure I understand this image, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to! hah. 1 for meeting the challenge plus 2 for making some connection between naked and eggplant equals 3.
09/10/2002 11:15:00 PM
I am sad to say I do not like this shot. The message is not clear to me and while I prefer "alternative" scenes, this one appears artsy for the sake of artsiness. The lighting appears shallow while parts of the foreground chair are bright. Maybe I'm just confused???
09/10/2002 06:05:00 PM
I think there is a pun, or message that I'm missing here. I'm not going to mark down for that though, it's my fault. The photos it's self is fairly interesting. What really caught my eye is the size of the chairs. Are they more like stools? Everything is nice where the eggplant is concerned. The lighting, angle and clarity are all good. Some might comment on the glare, but I don't think it's strong enough to be distracting. The naked guy in the back is a little dark for my taste, however, I think that is what you were going for. Kind of trying to emphasize the eggplant, while keeping the naked guy in the back, but still in the photo. Overall interesting photo. Good luck in the challenge. ~HBunch7187~
09/10/2002 05:12:00 PM
I'm guessing the other one is a fruit?
09/10/2002 01:00:00 PM
I am trying desperately to "get this". I think it's interesting, and provocative, but I am left wondering about the meaning. Please tell me later? Thanks.
09/10/2002 12:35:00 PM
I don't get what's the point with the naked guy back there??
09/10/2002 11:36:00 AM
I haven't been commenting for a few weeks but this photo sorta begged me for a comment. I guess that is a good thing:-)

The idea is interesting but I feel as if the nude male is added gratuitously...Plus the fact he is obviously a man but with the feet not touching the ground and in a corner like that he is reverting back to childhood.

The whole shot has a disturbing sorta fetish feel about it..very manipulating but it feels dishonest in relation to the challenge. So the emotion generated here is lost by making me feel like somebody is acting rather than being true.....sorta psuedo intellectual stuff that tends to turn me off..personal preference.

The technical stuff like lighting and the shadow to the side and the lighting of the eggplant etc are also personally not interesting to the shot but thats subjective.

The emotional context is good so points for that..the challenge is o.k. but the underlying dishonesty makes me feel very negative to the photo....7..hokie

upgraded to a 7...made me think more than most photos and that means something to me

This exposure is lacking, althought to composition is interesting
09/09/2002 08:25:00 PM
I'm not sure I quite understand what you were going for, but it's so weird that I like it.
09/09/2002 07:29:00 PM
Wow! This is actually CREATIVE! I really like it!
09/09/2002 06:54:00 PM
Good color, strange photo. Eggplants are dark, but this seem extra dark. Large blank walls. Why the naked man? 7 Swash
09/09/2002 05:35:00 PM
i like the imagery here. the real, relegated to the background, is subordinated by the symbol in the foreground.
09/09/2002 05:08:00 PM
congrats on trying to do something differnt. we need more of this and less of the same.
09/09/2002 02:52:00 PM
lol
09/09/2002 11:17:00 AM
at least he is sitting in the right chair
09/09/2002 09:48:00 AM
This is a gutsy shot. I can see a vegetable and I love the artistic nature of the image, but I can't pretend to understand it's true meaning… (8)
09/09/2002 08:54:00 AM
LOL... I have no idea what this is trying to say... but its definitely funny.
09/09/2002 01:50:00 AM
I don't get this one yet. Why is the guy sitting naked in the back.
09/09/2002 12:50:00 AM
If you're going to "do" nudes, get a model who has "got the body" for it.
I truly do not get the intent of the photo.
Technically, the lighting could be better. Artistically it is lacking.

I have come back to this picture a few times because i feel I owe you more than what I wrote above. There were two other shots where the human body was used. The most outstanding was "Forbidden Fruit." That picture tells a story and brings together fruit and a nude model in a complimentary manner. The problem I have with your picture is not the nude nor the use of a "beautiful body." It is that there is no mental correspondancy between the two elements. The nude does not add anything to the image and in fact, detracts from it.
Beyond that, the lighting for image is not adequate and there is a glare off the vegi..

very interesting - was he sent to the corner for doing something with the eggplant? 7
