I like that reddish brown fence in my backyard as a background. :) I am a recovering arachnaphobe. I was nearly killed by my fear when I swerved into oncoming traffic at 17 years trying to get a spider off my arm (the opposing car wound up in the ditch). The macro has actually helped because I can now appreciate their beauty. Plus, the 180mm has a 19" working distance. :) Plenty of room. Plenty of room.

A simple garden spider wrapping up a fly I found for him.

That is so cool - I HATE spiders I wish I could say how much I hate them. I too could see driving into a ditch to get one off or avoid one crawling onto me in a car. Nice work and great distance!!

Amazingly good - even got his little eyes all sharp! (are thy two eyes, one above the other in the middle of his head?

Did you use flash? - I can't see how you would get it so well-lit without!

I don't have but a 50mm macro for old film Canon - again this inspires to do something more than my Cat's eye, so thank you!

Coolest frickin' spider shot ever. I had one similar, though not nearly as dazzling. Lost it when my hard drive decided to just give up on life one day. Congrats on the great finish.

I really shouldn't have looked at this photograph just before going to bed. I woke at about 2.00am today in a blind panic, convinced tha the most enormous spider had just scuttled over my face. I felt physically sick, covered in goosebumps, and my scalp hurt where my hair was trying to stand on end - it was a positive relief when I realised that it was a mouse that the cat had brought me...

Superb macro - I really don't want to see this photo again, but it is nonetheless amongst my personal top three.

This will or should win. No other spider photo has the vibrant color, nor the malicious look to it that this one does. The white coming off the front legs is brilliant, along with the halloween feel you get from the pumpkinesque background. The fact that it is preparing a meal makes it that much better, plus you can't tell what is in the spun tomb. That leaves it open to the possibility that it is something scary...like me.
