This dad is meeting his brand new baby for the first time while home on R&R from Iraq. He's only home for 2 weeks, and then he has to leave his new baby and wife again to return to the war. And he's fighting on the front lines! This image is so powerful to me and reminds me to keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

PostChallenge: Thank you everyone for you wonderful comments! I volunteer my services for Operation:Love, Reunited (www.oplove.org), so this was a free portrait session for this family. And this dad received a free album of 4x6 proofs while in Iraq. Not to mention...he and his wife loved every picture and bought all of the proofs as well as many, many 8x10s and others. This picture is still my favorite!

Daddy's dog tags?

This is stunning in so many ways... Something for Dad to have and hold on the front lines.

Pray for peace...

Very powerful image indeed. Just a stunning photograph. Was he able to leave with a copy of this? So beautiful.

I agree. And now knowing the story behind this photo, I'd see if they would publish it in Newsweek or something like that. Surely...a prize winner.

P.S. This is now entered into one of my favorites.

Even without your notes, this is an incredibly powerful picture. Very, very nicely done - you've captured a wonderful moment here.

Beautiful. Many photos like this have the parent's eyes looking away from the camera. The direct look really adds a lot to this photo.

I absolutely love this. The chain is a bit distracting from the moment the title implies but the tenderness is beautiful.
