I really love this shot, my best to date? - predict 6.75!

I caught this elderly gentleman in a candid moment. His appearance was a little disheveled, but he had a presence that few have. It struck me that this man, still wearing a tie, french cuffs, cuff-links, polished shoes and flowers in his hat - must have an interesting past. I thought about asking him about himself, but decided that I would rather view the image and guess.

Thank you for the votes, comments and fav's. I really do love this picture and agree that the signage on the left is a little distracting - but I needed the empty bench space to convey 'solo'

I think the main reason this photo intrigues us is because of the fact that many ideas and stories can be drawn from it. This capture suits the saying "A photo is worth a thousand words" perfectly.

Very beautiful, also nice job on choosing to make this a sepia. If it were black and white it would have been too depressing, if it were color, the background would have been too detracting!

Congrats =D

Oh how I LOVE photos processed like this! This is so awesome! And I don't really think he looks sad. He seems content. Solo doesn't always mean lonely. I just love the photo. Congratulations on this well-chosen blue ribbon!

i feel sorry for the man in the shot.
i know a very old man who was alone after his wife passed away, and they had no children. it is saddening, and this photo brings out that very same emotion (assuming similar fate). good photo.

An image that creates a web of curiosity. The facial expression is so pensive and at the same time as if revealing a regret or disppointment in the colorful experience of life. Very well captured. Congratulations on your Blue!

This image implicitly tells a very sad story. What especially catches my eye in this photo and what drives home the solitude is the way the man is sitting on the very edge of the bench.

I would NOT... NOT think to give no less than 9 to this photo, and I don't know what other people were thinking when they gave 3 or 4 :(

Very effective, very touching photo. Good... no , Excellent job.

Congrats :)

PS: I would argue with ANYONE who thinks worth less than 9. if so, I tell you what, you are in a wrong place. period.

Congratulations on your ribbon and on a fine shot. For what it's worth, I don't mind the signage at all - it adds to the atmosphere in my opinion. An excellent capture!

This photo really caught my eye. The desaturation is great for bringing out the lines, might suggest a little less detail in the background to bring your subject even more.

I what have considered cropping about 1/3 off of the left. I think that would have enhanced the impact a lot. That being said it's still an 8 to my eyes.

You might not want to add such a lone title. Maybe for this one something short and sweet to allow the viewer to be creative. I love the Tones in this photo. I also love the whole vintage theme going on. Makes me wonder if a place like this really exists. The Vintage cap with the flower, shirt and tie with cuffs. The expression on his face is a good one.

This guy really looks like a unique character. There is something about his body language I can't quite put my finger...I feel like it's something I should be picking up on. Very nice b&w/sepia conversion, really fits overall with the mood of the photo. Great job!
