Whoa - here we have mt olympus and the giant gods leaning over the edge of the world to look down at Man standing alone, surveying the newly created world.

OMG.

I want to go on record here and state that this disqualification is partly based on my fault. Lisa had shown me this shot, before cropping, and I had suggested that she use this shot as a Negative Space entry after I showed her this wider-aspect crop, that cut out the person on the left. I also mentioned to remove the sensor dust, that I now found out after seeing the original, that it was water run-off. The version I saw had been edited already and looked like a little sensor dust.

I'll take the blame on this one and wish somehow the DQ could be overturned.

I am so sorry Lisa.

The red adds that great ballast feel against the shadow area and then the wonderful vastness. Very well conceived! Congratulations on your 5th place.

What a fascinating way to present negative space! i really, really like this one. So many things to like about this one.

The rocks in black are strong and overbearing and perfect. A little closer inspection reveals a tiny bit of detail splashed around the edges which subliminally carries into the shadow area and looks good.

The repeating theme and rhythym coming through the rest of the image is a major defining feature of what is really great about this image for me. It's all about light, water and rocks. The way it all flows into radial lines from the lower right to top left, creating bands of color, luminosity and texture while moving down the left edge further reinforces the minimalistic subject which is in just the right color (although the nitpick is that the red it just a hair too strong there and I mean just a hair - likely more a result of resizing than anything).

Definitely a great pick for this challenge.

If I could make some suggestions for post-challenge, maybe bring out the spray as it breaks on the coast towards the right just a teeny bit, go to the blues channel and very slightly play with desaturating and darkening to push the contrast just a bit and get rid of the high saturation areas on the left edge.

In-challenge this would have been a 10 from me and my pick for blue.

The border is perhaps a little heavy handed and the blown out sun a little distracting but, upon further inspection the composition is very pleasing. Very good work.

Great job. The overhand really exemplifies the mountain concept. From first glace that's what I saw, a mountain peak....

Gorgeous scene and the red-clad individual is such a perfect focal point. Love the heavy framing provided by the overcrop.
