I used an apple corer/slicer to twist half of the apple apart. To get it out of the corer, I had to break the twisted part off, and I actually nailed it back onto the apple after I removed the circular core.

I sprayed the apple and the twist with lemon juice to slow the browning process.

I used another larger nail to stab the bottom of the apple, and dangle it upside-down where I photographed it with a dark background.

Then I flipped the photo over and made some color adjustments, and viola!

Thank you for sharing with us how you did that. I was really curious and I never thought that it was upside down, duh. You put a lot of work and thought into this. I'll be looking out for your stuff in the future. Congrats on the good score!

Cool idea. I think it is a touch too tight on the crop, and the spots on the background are a little distacting, but overall a nice shot!

I just came across the kitchen gadget which makes those -- very nice. I'm wondering if you could find tiny enough toy cars to put a couple on there and call it "parking lot exit ramp"

Composition - quite good
Technical Aspects - quite good, right side a tad dark
Meets Challenge - yes
Visual Impact / Originality – quite high
Other suggestions – did you try a little less crop on the sides?

Good and artistic composition. I like the texture created by the light and shadow areas, but feel that the light could have been better diffused to avoid the harsh reflection. I also think that the cropping is just a bit too tight (minor nitpicks). Overall a very nice image.

Great shape but too closely cropped in frame for me. Also need a little more light on lower right of apple.

"Twisted Granny" Is that what Twisted Sister became in old age? :)

Seriously, the shot very intriguing. How did you get it to stay expanded?

A little less space at the top would have, in my opinion, been better. Also, perhaps too much glare / reflection near the middle of the photo. But a good photo with excellent creativity - well done!

One of my favorites this week. I like the muted green below, and the whimsical spiral up top, along with its tonal range of greens, oranges, and yellows. Beautifully lit, very playful photo.

Very nicely done. Focus looks great. I would have preferred just a bit less shadow on the right side. Meets the challenge in an imaginative way. 8

Have you tried cropping a little less on the sides to balance out the frame of the subject? I think it would have made an admirable improvement.

I like the composition and idea behind this image. The focus is a tad soft in places and the crop is a wee bit tight there, but it's a good effort and developed further, could be a very outstanding image. I'd like to see a black or white background. I think the blue is not as effective as black or (high key) white would be.

excellent shot... i think i can live with the tight framing on this one too :) The glare on the apple is slightly harsh, but overall, this is a great shot :) = 9 - jmsetzler

this is cool. did you use one of those fruit spiraling thingys that used to come with Ginsu knives? (if you dont know what that is its because, a: i'm too old... and/or, b: you're too young!) how did you hold that peel up there? (8) ~mcmurma
