Challenge: Painting With Light III (Basic Editing)

Aperture: F22
ISO: 100
Shutter: Bulb

Lots of fun. Attached a tube to the flashlight to give a more focused light that did not refract all over the place. Painted light as follows:

- on each of the curls, then the edges of each mandolin from behind to highlight the binding, then the middle mandolin and some highlights on the first mandolin. Had a pretty strong light so I was able to shoot at f22 with bulb. Probably about a 60 second exposure. 38 attempts.

PP: Camera Raw 4.1, then some levels, contrast, NI and sharpen. Not too much PP needed.

That's one stunning shot, love the light, the symmetry. The crop seems a bit tight/claustrophobic but I'm nit picking here. :)

Those old Gibson tailpieces sure are a pain, ain't they? Lovely shot, beautiful mandos, and congrats on a personal best. What's the one in the back?

IMO this picture dnmc because the light source appears to be stationary. Outside of challenge. I really love this picture. The lighting from within, and the tones on the instruments are really beautiful. Composition looks great too. For the challenge I am giving a 4 for the dnmc. Outside of challenge I would give 7. Good luck

Now this is very nice, however I would prefer a bit more detail in the first mandolin. As it is seems more like a black spot than your subject. Just a bit of light would have make such a difference IMHO

A very abstract image, which isn't really my cup of tea, but very well executed. There's a small part of the first violin (towards the right) that's lit, I think it's a bit distracting.

This would make a fantastic poster. It's really excellent and if it were mine, it'd be hanging on my wall.
