As I was driving back from Concord I saw this sunset developing, so I took a road over the top of the hills instead of through the tunnel, and pulled over at a roadside overlook and took pictures for about 20 minutes.

I had a hard time deciding whether to go with this longer panoramic view with better color, or a somewhat closer view which shows the bridge better.

Slightest of tone adjustments, re-sized for DPC, and sharpened a little. I guess I was really trying to make this my best "photograph" of the month with the least possible processing.

I love this photo's richness of color, dramatic clouds and silhouette. Stunning example of a good sunset picture.

Love the depth of color. Very nice shot!

Beautiful tones. I'm with you on this crop. I see it as horizontal thirds. It seems more symmetric and balanced to me. Great job and I'm glad you took the high road!

One of the best I've seen from ya, GenE. :) Great shot!!

Wow. This is beautiful. Good job. The crop makes it look like you used a 8mm wide angle lens. I like the crop better on the other picture.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! Later I'll post another shot which has the GG Bridge actually visible, but didn't seem to have the same oomph! as the more panoramic view.

In the meantime, here's a link to the panoramic crop most people seemed to want ...

I think this might have been a little better if it had been cropped with less black at the bottom but overall its a great capture of a lovely sunset

Colors are beautiful, cloud detail very good. My only negative is that there's not much else to look at; that is, the river looks nice, but is so small at this distance and angle, the bottom third is basically black, and the top third is dark enough to not have much to contribute. You might think about alternative crops to bring us closer to the river.

Beautiful atmospheric element. I might crop a little off the bottom though (probably half the dark "stuff") to put more emphasis on the sky. Are you referring to the sky as the "golden" gate? I can see where the GG is *i think* but it's a stretch. Nice work.

Good. Doesn't match the title, but the photo is good.

Very warm and beautiful colors. Great capture. Did you consider removing more of the bottom part of the image, since it's solid black and seems a bit empty? Jacko. 9

I can't see the Golden Gate myself... Maybe a tighter crop or a longer focal lenght would have done the job well. But other than that the challenge theme is the best photo and I think this perfectly fit the challenge. Incredible sky and colors (9)

Amazing clouds and lighting! The only thing I would have done is clone out the three small lights in the black area. Otherwise awesome job!

The few white areas in the dark foreground are a bit distraction, but other than that, it is a beautiful shot!

I'm not crazy for sunset/sunrise shots. I must say this one really made me look long and hard. The focus, clean and clearness of the sky is very nice..very. I love the soft peach color with the blue.
