Challenge: Selective Desaturation II (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Location: Chicago, IL
Date: May 20, 2007
Aperture: f/13
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/125
Galleries: Cityscape
Date Uploaded: May 20, 2007

Looking southwest at The Bean and Michigan Ave on Saturday morning. I selected the bean itself with a quick-mask, bumped up its saturation, and desaturated the rest. In the desaturation area, I slightly decreased the brightness and slightly increased the contrast. Cropped, resized, added a simple black border, and posted.

This is a great and unusual idea for the challenge. All the better for having the people around it, checking out their reflections. Great job!

Congrats on your new second-best score, Rob AND top 20! This is a really cool use of selective desat. And, of course, you started with a strong composition, which really is required to get a good result.

Congrats on the score and placement. The Millennium Park is probably one of the best planned parks around the country. Very nice desat.

Rob - Well done that's a great score. I didn't get around to voting on this one. I wondered if anybody had entered anything from our GTG.

Very nice work and an excellent choice for the challenge. This is one of the shots I thought the desat made sense and was used well. And 97% finish! Congrats!

Wonderfully surreal! Great perspective and the desat makes it a more intriguing picture than either full desat or color. Great job!

This works well, what an amazing piece of work. Perhaps getting closer to the 'bean' or whatever it is would have given it more impact. Good luck

Oh how I love Chicago! It's great how you used the reflection to show how much it really is desaturated. Great image!

Even in full colour, this object looks abstract, but by using selective desat., you've been able to make it look even more alien than it normally does. Nice shot.

In principle I like this, but the foreground isn't working for you here at all IMO.
