"Zero Horsepower"

Peddling down the road less traveled.
Where the cares and worries of life unravel.
The crisp air after an Autumn rain,
frees my mind of all refrain.
Riding quietly past the barren trees.
I welcome the company of a gentle breeze.
Pleasures of a small town's simple hour,
fulfills my ride of zero horsepower.

What a wonderful photo, the voters must be blind! Your composition with the biker and the curving street makes me feel like I'm riding along with him. This is definately a winner, congratulations on a wonderful capture.

Thanks for the kind comments during AND after the challenge! I'm glad that others liked this photo! However, when I was making this one, whether or not others would like it was low on my priority list. This shot I did for MYSELF! My placing in the contest was and is not an issue in my mind!

Great shot. i also don't get why you didn't get a ribbon on this one. Contrasting is incredible. Really brings out bicyclist. The curve in the road is very interesting. It makes your eyes follow it. Seems like you took this lower then eye level.

I don't understand why this didn't place higher. Composition is great, the monochrome really works well (appropriate for the old-fashioned bicycle), and the winding road leads the eyes to wherever the destination is. Perhaps trim a little bit at the bottom to take out a little bit more of the road, equal to the height of the space between the top and the head. But I am just being petty. Overall, you pretty much portrayed a very leisurely sport very well.

Great submission, although it's cropped a little tight at the top. I like the curved road, the reflexions on it, als well as the great background of the silo with its periodic structures. Sapia work very well too and the frame is OK. Good luck to you (9)

A person pedalling a bike does not produce zero horsepower, zero emissions maybe. It's a nice shot though, might want to crop the open space on the left to isolate the rider against the repeating cylinder shapes. Just a suggestion for an alternative.

Nicely done, good tones and light. I do think the full curve in the foreground should of been included.

Fantastic! I love this picture. Really, meets the challenge. I love the colours of your picture, I think duotone was a brilliant choice. The composition is great, too. Good use of the rule of the thirds. Definitely, one of the best pictures of this week and one of my favs. Congrats for a good work. 10

I'm pretty certain if you give us the appropriate information (weight, acceleration, time, distance, etc) we can determine he doesn't produce 0 horsepower. ;)
