Great use of color and body posture with the sombrero taking the lead in the composition. Congratulations on your top ten finish.

Hi from the Critique Club,

Well, just out of the top 5 so it seems like you did something right! :)

Your picture is striking. I particularly like the orange color of the background as it sets off the stitching of his hat quite nicely. You have given the viewer a couple of strong lines to peruse, particularly the leading lines of the fiddle's neck up to the bow.

By hiding most of the models face, the attention is placed more heavily on his hat and instrument. This gives it more of an impersonal feel but still gives a good sense of the holiday.

Technicals are good, really my only nitpic is the mass of dark/shadow on the models right side(camera left). I suppose a small directional light coming from camera left could have given a little more depth the the shadows.

PM me if you have any questions and good luck in your future challenges.

Mark

very good on a number of levels: pose, composition, foreground/background relationship, overall lighting. Unfortunately it looks like an impersonal and bland stock photo. Does little to capture such a dynamic and flavorful festival. Could crank up the saturation a touch.

Very nice color and a shot that opens nicely in a challenge with so many stinkers. Cool shot and composition. My eyes wish I could see all of his bow and finger tip. Could be a tad bit cleaner as far as focus is concerned but a pleasant shot to view and a very good idea. 7

Is he really left handed or did you flip this picture?
