Great action shot. It would have been nice to see the ball, but sometimes it just is not possible. :)

The focus on this is outstanding. The catcher, batter and umpire stand out nicely from the background which is just blurry enough to make them (the subjects) seem sharper and to be less distracting (though I do find myself looking at the people in the stands, possibly indicating that teh dof isn't shallow enough). Also, the colors are a nice, rich hue.

I suppose, in a field of over 200 shots, this one suffered from not having enough "wow" to really enthrall the viewer. It is a good photograph, and a score of 5.8ish is nothing to sneeze at, but in reading the other comments, I'm struck with the notion that while everyone seems to know about baseball, this shot just didn't grab them as being that unique.

Nice work, and best to you in future challenges. If I need to further clarify or explain myself, please let me know.

If the focus was on the batter rather than the catcher...
"Strike!" would fit the composition better.

I like that you managed to shoot from ground level, but the background is too in focus and too distracting. A good capture of the action though.

Nice and sharp but the background is too distracting.

I can't tell by the shot??? that pesky ball might have been behind the batter... You could have named it Strike if the ball had been going by... or the title you used if it was still in the frame... none the less a great picture of the 3 of them!

Good capture of the moment after the hit, but it would be much better if you could see his face. I would also frame it move the batter much farther to the left so you get a feeling of the direction that the ball has gone.

Classic shot. A pity that I cannot see any of the subjects faces - then I'd get to see some emotion. I like the good crisp focus.
