poor subject, not visually interesting. I would have preferred this in color, with no salt.

Firstly, the image quality is not so good. Second, I do not see how this fits the challenge. I am wondering if you knew this was the candid challenge, and not the childhood challenge. (?)

I am guessing you tried to meet the "Try to emphasize the mood of the moment" of the challenge and I do know what happens when you put salt on a slug. However, I do not think most of the viewers on dpc can make a similar association. I could see this image working if you had zoomed out a little more, had it slightly more in focus and had a slow shutter speed to show the slug twitching and squirming after the salt is placed.

I think that this would have been better in color. It would bring out much more detail in the slugs agony. The focus seems a bit soft.

Is it possible that you were mistaken about the subject?

I think this is an interesting concept for a photo, but this can't really be considered 'candid' in my mind... it's planned :) - jmsetzler
