Photographer’s Notes
I’ve been living in Italy since January. During the first week I was in Florence, I chanced upon a kitchen store selling this wonderful knife block. The Kitchen Utensils challenge was a great opportunity to reshoot this little guy. Hope you enjoy!

absolutely priceless.

One thing that might make this really surreal is extracting the BG, blurring it to heck, then adding heavy NeatImage to the knives and figurine... It's already bordering heavily on a 'trompe d'oeil' and I like it!

Hi there from the Critique Club

Technically, this is a fince photograph. Your focus is spot-on, and your colors are spectatcular. The image appears to have a small amount of haziness to it that would have been easily remedied with a slight curves adjsutment. Compositionally, I think you had lots of room for improvement. The image is a bit too centered, and chopping the base of the image off with your crop seems more accicental than an intentional composition. As mentioned earlier in your comments, the background is a bit too busy, thus distracting. Your lighting is nice and even, and I really like the reflections you captured in the little man. You also did a fine job meeting the challenge, perhaps as well as any other in the challenge. With some compositional adjsutmetns and a little curves adjsutment, I think this one would have pushed a bit higher.

Thanks for the opportunity to critique your entry,
Eric

Is this a real knife block? What a spiffy idea! I think the photo would be more interesting with a different background. Perhaps something solid.

I've always wanted one of these.

Clearing out some of the distracting elements in the background would have improved this some.

cool subject -- i've seen these before -- but i think it would have more impact if it were just one or two knives, and against a totally black background. as shot, i think it's too mundane.

That's probably very bad Feng Shui. It's cute though.
