I tried to do this the old fashioned way. I set up three flash units. Two lights positioned from behind and above the strainer(to light up the filtered water) and another flash with a snoot in front and to the left lighting the strainer. One light in the back had a snoot with a yellow and green filter taped together on the end of the snoot and the other had a red and blue filter. About 30 tries and a lot of mopping up later I got a result that I wasn't happy with so I resorted to selections and Hue/Saruration method and this is the result.
Also did some levels and USM.

Thanks everyone for the comments.
Coley yes I am hooked. I was watching this all week and at one point it reached 6.75 and I thought just maybe I might ribbon. But I am glad it didn't. The pics that did ribbon are well deserved.
Some thought I cropped this too tight. I had to crop it the way I did because the strainer was being held up by a tripod and the leg of the tripod crept into the image more than I would of liked so hence the crop.

i really want to like this, but i so want the image to have room on the sides to breathe. your border constrains an overly narrow image even more. clever idea.

Now there is a utensil everyone can use....A pasta strainer that emulates the Dark Side of the Moon cover.

I really love the idea of this! An alternate title could have been Roy G. Biv...but that's only the geek in me speaking!

This is very creative, I do like it - it does seem a bit hemmed in on the sides though, and might benefit from less cropping.

OK well have no idea how you created this effect, but I do know that the outcome is stunning, possibly could have done with being a fraction lighter but still wonderful
