Challenge: Free Study 2007-03 (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D
Lens: Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L USM
Location: Bláfjöll, Iceland
Date: Mar 28, 2007
Aperture: 4
ISO: 500
Shutter: 30 sec
Galleries: Sky, Landscape
Date Uploaded: Mar 30, 2007

Taken on the road to Bláfjöll close to Reykjavik, shot just after midnight. Was actually the first time I went out in March to take "nightscapes". This month I have only been doing portraiture and mostly just for assignments wich I didn´t want to post, shots specifically for dpc challenges or my picture a week project that many of you had seen so there was little to choose from to send in this month. If I had posted my favorite photo this month it would be the 9th week photo of Gulli in the Blue Lagoon but I felt that would be cheating a little bit since many of you have seen it. Will probably be one of the last nightscapes I post in a while since it´s getting brighter every day here in Iceland but look out for them again in October.

Anyway, even though I really like this shot I am not as happy with this as many of my previous nightscapse and do NOT predict this a top 10 placing as my two previous free study entries have placed this year, I am guessing it will score somewhere between 6-6.5 and if that happens I´ll be quite happy :)

Moon actually helped out a lot in this one and I didn´t have to process much at all, just raw conversion, curves and removed a street sign in the lower right corner, sharpened after resizing.

Oh not tall at all, would rather classify them as hills rather than mountains, I don´t really have a good feel for height of landscape so take this with a grain of salt but probably only 50-100 meters higher than the ground below.

Majestic and dreamy, the stars look so out of place when the overall image is so bright, all the more special.

This is an amazing shot. The score along with many others in this challenge seems MUCH MUCH too low however. Wonderful though.

This has gotta be an Icelander. Larus? Stunning, perfectly exposed whites and beautiful stars.

Love the contrast from white to royal blue and to top everything off, stars.

I predict a ribbon.

This must have been a full moon, right???

Beautiful! I'd probably clone out a few of the dark specks on the snow.

AMAZING! How do you accomplish this? A well-lit foreground, a sunsetting sky, and a dark, star-lit night? This is one of the best photos I have ever seen.

I thought they were stars, but it's snow isn't it? Good capture

Love it, yet again. Those needle-point stars just scream 5D+24/1.4L. What a beautiful cloudscape and landscape the moon has revealed here.
It's good to know that the darkness will son be fading for you, and may give me a chance to compete with nightscapes through the summer months!

Right then, joke's on me as I now have to plough through 564 images and bump them all (yes, all of them) up. There'll be a third run through for fine tuning. It's day two now and I'm running late, sorry.
