I shot two subjects for this challenge and both involved small multicolored decorative lights. In the second, I just twirled the lights infront of the camerage during 1-2 second exposure with the camera on timer. It was exhausting...and the results were OK.
In the second, this, I hung a wind spinner from the top of my studio-ette shooting area. The spinner was surrounded by the little lights front and back on each side. I set the spinner spinning and shot 1-15 second exposures and decided after a while that a more open aperture and lesser shutter speed work best to give the full flavor of the spinner spinning. I found that what work best was to not only the spinner spin but also to let sway a bit left to right. I got more detail of the spinner it self and a wonderful helix like line pattern in the middle that I did not get without the slight sway. So here you go. I know I probably should have gone KISS and with the twirled lights but I like this one better. Much easier to shoot as well with camera on tripod and manual remote. Shot two sessions of each subject last night and this morning. This is from the morning session.

Post: Convert from raw in PSElements 3.0 with a +0.33 exposure compensation. Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation. Slight CCW rotation and crop and cropped again for aspect ratio. Sharpen. Resize. Sharpen.

Groovy image. Love the wonderful colors, technique.. such a creative idea! Reminds me of DNA in abstract/light form. I'm including it in my favorites.

Not sure what it is you did here but the end result is pleasing. Looks like a DNA helix thingie.

Funky! Multi-coloured DNA!! Is it colour coded? :P

Definitely like the idea. But I don't really feel the "spinning" action since the exposure is so uniform...
