Challenge: Spinning (Basic Editing)
Collection: Portfolio
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM
Location: Altamont Pass, CA
Date: Mar 27, 2007
Aperture: 32
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/10
Date Uploaded: Mar 27, 2007

The amount of dust on my sensor is shameful. f32 shows everything.

***
A rainbow strikes again! Thanks for your votes and comments.

My polarizer broke about 10 minutes before the rainbow showed up. I had some rather borring pictures of spinning wind machines against the stormy sky and then the clouds broke. f32 and 1/10 was the slowest shutter speed I could manage. 0.5s would have been the best.

Post processing was pretty minimal, some levels and saturation/contrast adjustment, USM and wala!

I cloned out about 30 dust bunnies!

I like the rainbow seemingly divides the sky into regions of dark and not as dark :)

That very much brings back the feeling of racing my bike through Altamont Pass - brutally windy!

Not a problem, you can rotate the polarizer so it is NOT polarizing the rainbow and then it's just a ND filter in effect.

Great shot. Peters :-)

Thanks! I used the polarizer on my Tree minimal editing shot and I think it appeared to intensify the colors because it darkened the sky. I thought a polarizer brightened the rainbow, but it is an illusion caused by relative brightness.

I'm with you on the f/32 vs. dust thing. Maybe get an ND filter? I had a similar problem with my entry (although mine was at f/20 where the dust isn't quite so bad).

I definitely could have used a ND! I already had a gradND but the white blades of the windmills against the dark sky were tough to hold. I still blew out the stationary ones.
